Subject: Problem When Upgrading to Beta 2 Firmware
Posted on: 03/11/2004 5:01:09 PM
Message:

After copying the .hex file to the Neuros, I reach the dialogue for installing the new firmware. It seems to be properly recognizing the firmware. However, I am getting an error asking me to 'PLEASE INSTALL 1.29 VERSION FIRST! Please Plug in USB Cable and Download Software'. Does anyone have a copy of the 1.29 firmware lying around that I should use, or am I doing something wrong?

You shouldn't be getting this error when going to 2.11 beta. Make sure you are correctly loading the firmware, by booting up by pressing down-play, then mounting the Neuros on your computer, and finally copying woid.hex to the firmware directory.

It's possible that you have an old woid.hex sitting on the nand flash (which is what you access when you boot pressing down-play) and that's what it's looking at.

I searched the Neuros, the only Woid.hex file is the one I added. I'm worried that I downloaded the wrong beta firmware at Xiph.org. Could someone be so kind as to link me to the correct one so I can be sure?

I downloaded it from here, by the way: http://xiph.org/neurosetta/files/woid-beta2.hex

Uhh, that's a very old beta from when they were first implementing Ogg Vorbis playback.

You want to go to the following URL and download the 2.11 Beta Neuros Firmware.

That's still getting people. Is there any way DI could respectfully ask Xiph to take it down? or add a link to the support_updates.asp page?

Heh, that was the problem. I apologize, I knew it would be something stupid like that. Thank you.

That wasn't necessarily the problem... The Neuros would sometimes ask for 1.29 for what seemed like no reason during certain upgrades. I first got this error in the middle of September (without ever using the Xiph firmware). I don't know if the new partial and full things have to do with this, maybe this is eliminated after sucessfully loading 2.x firmware?! That's maybe a Michael Gao question. I haven't had that error in a long time but whenever I got it I simply did what it said and loaded 1.29 then loaded whatever firmware I wanted.

Thanks for pointing this out. The page has been updated accordingly.
