Device tested: Neuros II 256MB with 80 GB HD backpack

Comments: audio performance is good for a consumer device. Subjective audio quality is very good. Recording or playback at higher levels can improve SNR, but with significantly increased distortion (see web page plots comparing -16 dBV line input level with -10 dBV.) Compare to other devices with caution- test methodologies differ.

----------------------------------------------
Neuros WAV recording, 44.1 kHz, 16 bits
Line input at -16 dBV, Neuros volume at -2 dB
----------------------------------------------
Freq. Resp (40Hz-15kHz): +0.14, -0.19 dB
Noise level: -83.4 dB(A)
Dynamic range: 82.9 dB(A)
THD: 0.024 %
IMD: 0.058 %
Crosstalk: -82.3 dB

----------------------------------------------
Neuros WAV playback, 44.1 kHz, 16 bits
headphone volume set 3 bars below full
----------------------------------------------
Freq. Resp (40 Hz- 15 kHz): +0.03, -0.19
Noise level: -85.4 dB(A)
Dynamic range: 85.3 dB(A)
THD: 0.0039 %
IMD: 0.020 %
Crosstalk: -85.4 dB

Testing with a WAV file means it's more the the equipment than the audio file causing any undesirable results.

Here's another way of putting it: You put crap in, you get crap out.

I just saw this post, but very very cool. Thanks for putting in the time to do this, it's great feedback.

I'd love to get your thoughts on what it means in practical terms.

Our new hardware will be using Burr Brown ADC/DAC at great expense and audio quality should be improved even beyond the current Neuros. Stay tuned.
