2.28 firmware is great.
Finally I've got rid of that useless, cumbersome neuros database way to access music.
Simple things are so better!
And moreover I can see what I really have on my neuros and manage it my way.
Oh, and no more NDBM, Sorune, Positron or whatever, that's how things should have been since the very beginning, IMHO.

You are probably going to take a big hit on the battery life since you will be using the more cumbersome method of accessing music.

This may get the dumb award but here goes:

Would it be possible to have the firmware read in the directory structure and keep in memory rather than to have to re-read it all the time?

Before 2.28 it was only using the database to know where songs are. Isn't the file stucture in effect a database?

I actually suggested that in another thread, and I hope it happens - a simple database that stored the directory structure to a small text file or whatever every time the USB cable is disconnected would be VERY nice. It would eliminate almost all use for any sync manager.

I'm not using the file browser until then, I want my battery to live.

No problems what so ever yet. had it for about 3-4 weeks already...
no major bugs that i can see.

one that I came across, which is an old one and i thought it was fixed, is when I recorded from the radio and didn't properly shut down (while it was 'thinking') my song presets changed (by 1 or 2 songs up in the database).

Well leave it to me to jinx everything.
I bout a cd, ripped it to my pc, copied it to the NSM.
Pressed synch and on the second operation of the synch (or maybe 3rd) itrebooted my pc!!!
I tried it again, same results.
Is it firmware? appears so since there was no NSM updates for a while now, and didn't use to happen until i updated to 2.28
the saver to this is the file browser, since i don't really need to synch anymore... but the filebrowser has it's limitations.

Please help.
I'll try calling NA soon if this isnt resolved.

Nobody ever thinks about owners of hdless units like me, for whom file browser is great and not battery-swamping at all.
We feel neglected.

Nice one... I agree that it needs more work though, it's a bit cumbersome that it doesn't read the whole directory at once... I think it'd be quiet nice to have an option somewhere to cache the directory tree of the entire drive... But then maybe, it's getting a little complicated / backwards...

It did crash on me once when I was fast forwarding a track (don't do it often so I don't know if it's repeatable or not)...
