I'm considering buying one of these beautiful players and have been looking around the forums of things people have done with them. I was wondering when replacing the hard drive yourself, what is the largest that the neuros will recognise? or is there no limit?

Just FYI

Replacing the hard drive yourself will void your warranty.

it uses 2.5" drives, i think the biggest they got now is 100gb. you can switch them, its been done before and they're sold as high as 80gb. My guessid that 100 would be ok, not sure though and I don't rember what you gotta do to format them.

Keep in mind that this guide was written awhile ago. Now that Neuros sells 80 GB units, I'm guessing that the Neuros itself can format the 80 GB drive with no problems (at least you'd hope so )

The 100GB drive will work.

My 100 Gig hard drive works great and has never had a problem since the installation.

My Neuros is about 1 1/2 years old with the USB 2.0 upgrade (DI did a few tweaks to fix some minor glitches they said it had). I stay current on all firmware updates.

I took a chance on a Seagate 100 Gig hard drive at Christmas from CompUSA for around $180. I bought those weird tox wrenches and with only minor worry followed Cool's instructions and slipped in the HD.

A few weeks ago I ran the Neuros for an impressive 7 hours at a beach party. I have now built the battery recharger from RC car batteries. I hope it might get another 2 hours with this, but I haven’t put it to the acid test yet.

I love my Neuros and will always give high praise to DI and the great contributors to this discussion group.

I just installed an 80 GB hard disc today and it worked perfectly just using the built in formatting tool and then rebuilding the data via Sorune.

I got my 80 GB hard drive for free too :-D (I work at a computer shop) I had to mention this because I am so happy about it. Upgraded from a 30 GB unit to an 80 GB unit for only the cost of a T6 Torque wrench.
