Anyone else going to miss the backpack? Printed from: Neuros Forums Topic: Topic author: sez
Subject: Anyone else going to miss the backpack? I will. I was looking forward to all the expansion options the backpack design might have enabled. I was especially hoping for a Neuros car stereo that consisted of a "brain" only. I could unplug my portable brain and plug the backpack into the car stereo and be able to navigate using the car stereo's controls rather than fumbling around with Neurocast.

A gig of flash in a tiny form that could turn into massive storage, or add a card reader, or satellite radio, etc... So many options are there, but you could still have a tiny device if you wanted it.
Reply author: Sottilde I for one won't miss it. I'll miss the possibilities - I agree that a small stereo component to plug the Neuros into (a Neuros dock, basically... although isn't that ipodish?) would be cool, as would several other ideas. But it never came to fruition, and so I will not miss the design. I will not miss unplugging my backpack whenever my Neuros freaks out. I will not miss the fear of bending a pin, and I will not miss the size.
Reply author: nxg125 Heck yeah, I'll miss the backpack. Honestly, I can't really see myself buying a Neuros III for this very reason. The backpack design was one of the most innovative features of the Neuros I/II. I don't really care how much smaller the Neuros III is, if I can't take it with me to the gym or while jogging, I'll pass.
Reply author: Sottilde Oh, I see what you're talking about - I admit the flash component was very cool, but way, way too big. I wish there were a way to redo the backpack system and keep the small size, but I doubt that's really going to happen.
Reply author: sez I actually never found myself switching backpacks to/from flash, to the point where my flash backpack now won't take a charge. For me, the draw was always going to be the portability of so much music, and the ability to plug that music into multiple devices.
Reply author: peterskm I'll miss the backpack for the ease of upgrading/replacing hard drives that it offered. In HD-based players, the HD is first to go. If you can change it yourself easily, that's a good thing. Add to that the fact that you could buy a Neuros 20Gb unit and upgrade it to 80Gb when the need arised without having to buy a new unit.
Reply author: Mantis I was wondering if backpacks for the Nueros II will still be able to buy, at least for a little while. My 40 gig is nearly full, and at some point I would like to get another one, or even an 80g.

Reply author: Sheki I sorta like the two-piece system. Since the brain piece is not as sturdy due to it's screen, if it ever has a problem, you can still use the hard as a hard drive to move files and use it while the brain is getting fixed...
Reply author: PeregrineBF I like the idea of the backpack, but the implementation had problems. Perhaps for the N4?
Reply author: FrozenFruit I won't miss the backpack. It was a neat idea, but I'd rather have a single consolidated unit instead of three separate pices to carry around.
