Got my 442 yesterday, plugged it into my pc and the drive was noticed but when I try to access it I get a message telling me that the drive needs to be formatted. Windows wants to format the drive using the NTFS file system. I selected the file folder on the 442 and seleted format drive there but I get a message "pls check with pc" I'm getting frustrated now I guess because I'm getting anxious to get this baby up and running. I can't record audio because I get a "disk full" message. I can't record video because when I press "play" it does nothing. Anybody else have this problem? I wonder if it is just a bad unit? Anybody have any suggestions?

I cant remember exactly how to fix this...but this has happened before. I know I saw the answer either on the forums or the wiki in one of these sections http://www.theneuros.com/index.php/Beta_Test_E-mail_Discussion:442

I would look for you but i do not have time...

Good luck

When I was a kid my mom used to tell me that curiosity killed the cat...What she forgot to tell me was that it also discovered the cat, invented the lightbulb, and forged the Neuros

Don't have mine yet, but I have seen a few people mentioning having to format their 442 when they first received it. In the online manual at http://www.neurosaudio.com/pdf/NEUROS442%20User%20Manual.pdf , Chapter 6 (p28) tells how to format the drive via the 442 menus. I do know that you will want to let the 442 format itself, and not let it be formatted by your PC. FORMATTING THE DRIVE WILL REMOVE FILES THAT HAVE BEEN ADDED TO THE 442. If you format the drive, know that any files that you have added to the 442 will be lost. In this case, it sounds like you cannot add files, so that may be a moot point.

This page also has references to formatting the 442:

OK, what if the whole thing is messed up? Is there a way to reapply the entire image onto the unit, also would you be able to attach it to a linux box via usb and then make a copy using 'dd'? Would this get all of the files that are required (the OS, etc.)?
