Early 2006 is about right. We will keep you updated.
The next version will be Linux based and Open Source. We will also include most of the requested features from our current gamma group.

well i need some advice, so instead of creating a new thread, imma use my old one, if thats ok.

I really need a PVP (pmp, dmp, pvr, mp4, so many names lol) i really cant wait til spring, but i will if i have too.

but im looking at the Mustek PVR-H160, and it seems, good. But i need some advice, on whether to wait, or just get one now?

sorry if im being a pest, and n00b, lol

Icesklilz, you are in the exact predicament that I was in.. I just decided to go for it as the company's support and help is unparralleled. They helped me every step of the way with my old Neuros mp3 player and I decided that the upgrade via hardware and firmware would be worth it in the long run. The ability to record is what made me get it.. that and the fact that the neuros recorder 2 will have mpeg-4 recording makes me hope that this is the format the new 442's firmware will be using.. I like others hope they allow something else besides ASF..

I have not played with the Mustek yet, but I doubt they offer an upgrade option. This is really what would tip the balance towards the 442 for me. As everybody, I hate the idea of spending money an a device that would be obsolete in a few months. Buying an evolving product and being able to upgrade to the open source version when it comes out is quite compelling.

I can also tell you that based on the current result of our survey, current 442 owners are really happy with the unit. Over 4 out of 5 would recommend it. I really think it is a great PMP for the money.

One thing to keep in mind is that you are on Neuros forums, so opinions here are somewhat biased. This isn't to discredit anyone, but you shouldn't base your purchase entirely on what one forum has to say (this goes for any forum).

i know, just lookin for some advice. wait, the 442 have an upgrade option? is it for life? so if i have a previous version of a neuros pvp, then a newer version comes up, i can get that for less, right?

[[edit]] sorry, i looke at the plan at (http://www.neurosaudio.com/store/prod_442Upgrades.asp)

and woah! so i can buy now, and upgrade later for only $100, omg, i never seen thing like this, and i like it. THIS COMPANY IS GREAT!

Ice,

I am part of the Gamma Test Group. This is truly a great product. It is so easy to use and the company has been extremely supportive of the testers and developers. I'm just a good old fashioned gadget guy and this little pup is pretty close to Nirvana. There are some things that I'd like to see improved and if Johan is true to his word ( as is Joe Born, the CEO of Neuros)the upgrade should cover most if our concerns/wishes/critiques. This is going to be a fun ride for many years to come. I was a very early adaptor of the related technologies and funny, I don't remember getting an upgrade option on my original Diamond Rio MP3 player, nor did I happen to see any offers from Apple for my wife's iPod. You've already figured out that this is the way to go, but some unsolicited encouragement never hurts.

Good Luck.

Hey FJ...if you should be reading this....please allow for USB charging on the next version. I need something to do with my laptop when I travel, might as well put it to good use.

I am trying to keep up DCNY. All the requests have been added to the bugzilla I believe. Make sure you vote on the features you need the most. I will keep bugging the dvpt team to make sure most of them are addressed. I am in the hot seat apparently , I better do a job here!

Thanks for the encouragement, we never get tired of this!

Ice. The MPEG4 recorder is a really nice complement to the 442 since you have a timed recording option that the 442 does not have yet. You set it up like a VCR and do not have not be around to start it. Once the recording is done, take the SD card and insert it in the 442 and you are ready to go. Now, if timed recording is not a plus you want to have, the 442 on its own will do, since you can record of your cable box, satellite receiver box, DVR,PVR, DVD player, VCR etc... Note that you need a source with video output and most TVs are only receivers (with only video input), meaning you will have to connect your 442 or recorder directly to your cable box, DVD player etc to record.

I hope that helps, if you have more questions, let us know.

Hey FJ:

Since you are encouraging someone to buy the MPEG-4 Recorder, you might want to stop by at the MPEG-4 Recorder Support Forum and help us out there - the "new" firmware upgrade appears to be a disaster.

Most of the posts you see on this thread were sent before we had the new tutorial up on the wiki. We made sure to add that the upgrade was for people who bought a unit during the woot launch.

I believe the Woot reference was added to the Wiki a week or two after the upgrade was posted - hence the problem.

Please take a look at the posts from the last week or so.

What does this mean? Which features? The wishlist posted on the Wiki http://theneuros.com/index.php/Wishlist:442 ?

Will the screen have higher resolution and more colors in v2? THe Sony PSP has its size limitations but the screen is amazing.

thanks,
Mark

Bugzilla is the tool used by our engineers. The wiki is a good tool for informational purposes, but if you want to report a bug, or if you want a feature to be implemented on the 442, bugzilla is the way to go.
