Reply author: American Techpusher There has not yet been a date released yet by Neuros. You are certainly not alone in waiting for the New 442.
Reply author: steve.golber(at)wachoviasec.com Any word from the Boss on the release date of the 442v2. I have the original, I need new now. quote: steve
Reply author: ice.skillz -_- People are becoming annoying with the demands from the new model. Just be patient. "GIMME NEW MODEL NOW" kind of thing is rude to the people working trying to make this happen. i guess its goog to see people wanting to new model so bad. But just be patient

Reply author: Uriah I will have to agree that demanding to know when the 442v2 will be out is kinda offensive.

quote: a Friend of mine purchased a Cowon A2 with 30GB for $375 at Newegg.com, It is very nice but the big drawback is it does not record. Archos Pocketdish that will download Thru USB on my dish DVR receiver as well as record from analog has been tempting me. I belive however Neuros goal is to release the best player/recorder possible. Please try and give them the time and breathing room to make it happen. I totally belive in Neuros and the 442V2 and will wait for it.
Reply author: Uriah Ooops... s/compatition/comparison/ quote: I forgot that the A2 can not record. That still goes to show that the 442 is twice the product as the A2 and still costs less. I have been following in the wings for who knows how long (when was it first publicly mentioned that neuros was going open?) so as to purchase their product. I do not wish for them to rush it out the door and start releasing patches every few days like some products. Keeping an eye on the forums and developer boards tends to lend one to the thought that product probably wont be available until after Thanksgiving, although the Wiki has second quarter marked as the expected date. I actualy got rather stoked when I first saw that Wiki entry. Someone may wish to change it. People screaming "Please be patient" is not going to correct the view that some has picked up that the 442v2 will be out soon or do anything else other than errode ones patience. I am not asking to have it in my hands right now. Seeing whats in being chatted about in the developer list, I dont want what they have right now. I just wish to know, how long should I go back to sleep for? I do not wish to bother the devoloper lists as they have plenty of things on their plate. PS-> Just found the Wiki page, and I was wrong. It mentioned First Quarter. http://www.theneuros.com/index.php/Category_Roadmap:442
Reply author: Flamethrower a2 does not record? Check again, it records quite well, I use it for that all the time.

Reply author: ice.skillz hmm, The A2 seems very nice at this point. . .
Reply author: kcf45 The silence regarding the features and release date for 442v2 is indeed disturbing. There never was an adequate explanation as to why 640x480 recording, which was promised as an immediate upgrade for v1, was never implemented. The audio features are barely features (a $29 mp3 player does better), and the 2 firmware upgrades so far have not adddressed a single priority item on our wish lists. In the meantime, archos and cowon are building and enhancing mature products.

quote: I'm thinking the same thing if the v2 isn't released anytime soon. It's only 4 more weeks till Q3 and we haven't heard anything. It doesn't matter if the product is good or not but our money is getting wasted waiting for the v2 since I can return the v1 for $330 and just buy the refurbished v1 directly from Neuros on ebay for only $199. If Neuros takes any longer to have the v2, they will probably have to lower the market price especially if Archos and Cowon does so w/ their PMPs then the upgrade options are no longer as enticing. Of course, my decision all depends on the pricing scheme for the v2.

quote: So did it work ? Is the process of "early" return documented somewhere ? Not only do we get NO updates on what is going on with development but the google group also has VERY little activity. I wonder how many people are working on it full time (if any). Some information and a reasonable timetable would be really nice. --A
Reply author: kcf45 I called support for instructions. I had to email my request with my Woot! order number. In short order, I received a reply with an RMA number and address to return the unit (and all original accessories).
Reply author: jscott1 I haven't been on this board since March and I came back hoping for at least some shred of evidence that progress was being made and there is none.
Reply author: truen this topic is depressing :( maybe i shall call in and get a refund..
Reply author: JEFFH My guess is the 442V2 won't be available untill the end of the year but thats just my guess.
Reply author: kcmark Unbelievable. I remember when I signed up for the Gamma testing through Woot we were told that in exchange for shelling out $400 to test the 442 and post our opinions of the 442, we would, within the next 6 months, end up with an updated fully functioning device regardless of whether we chose to upgrade to the newer open source model. We're now approaching 9 months and I'm still stuck with basically an analog to digital video recorder with modest playback abilities (still can't see the whole file name to figure out which episode I'm playing) and horrible music playback abilities (you can't even browse for the next song while the thing plays).

quote: So far, they have taken all of the user comments posted in the dev group very seriously[1]. There have also been several scheduled IRC chats[2] with the people developing stuff. If you wanted to have input, you would have been welcomed. If you don't want to keep informed and just want to complain, I don't think Neuros or anyone else can do anything for you. quote: The current 442 was not developed by Neuros, it was repackaged by them from another company (search this forum for details). This means that they have only as much control over the current product as makes sense for them to pay for. At the moment it appears that it would cost them too much to develop those few features on this current dead-end system. The 442v2 looks to be shaping up very well so far from what I have been reading on the available resources. I just posted my thoughts about the release date and what not in another topic[3].
