Reply author: Cool4u2view That site first influenced my decision on buying headphones. Because of that site, I bought a pair of Sennheiser HD 497 headphones (under $70). In my opinion they sound better than the Bose Triport headphones for $150. They also have much more bass then my pair of sony headphones. I have yet to try the Shure headphones available from the Neurosaudio.com web site.
Reply author: DP Sony MDR-EX70LP Fontopia Anniversary. Before that, Koss "The Plug." Both have excellent bass. The Sony's are much easier to use (the foam on the Koss have to be squeezed down to insert in your ear), but the Koss are really inexpensive.
Reply author: Sean Starkey I'm using the Grado SR80 with my Neuros. I'm very happy with the sound.
Reply author: theFuzzyWarble I'm currently using a pair of Sony MDR-ED268:: http://www.sel.sony.com/SEL/consumer/ss5/portable/accessories/fontopiartmear-budheadphones/mdr-ed268lp.shtml
Reply author: Third Rail Design Lab DP, be careful with those EX70s! Between hearing risk and line distortion, you can get one hell of a surprise if your headphone wires venture too close to an electronic device like a TV.
Reply author: Lou Erickson I'm using Koss UR-20's. I've been very happy with them; they sound good, are comfortable, and block out the room noise, which is one of the biggest concerns I seem to have.
Reply author: Third Rail Design Lab thank you thank you thank you for the hot headphone out!!!
Reply author: slestak(at)cavtel.net I am using Sony MDR-Q55's. They are pretty ok sound wise, but they are very comfortable. They have a ear-wraparound design like a phone headset. The cabling appears to be very tough, with a braided material covering. It comes with a relatively short cable, but with an extension. I'm 6'1" and I have to use the extension. I imagine some people may not, or maybe when sitting in transit, could prob do w/o the extra length.
Reply author: mckeowbc I'm using the Koss KSC-55's. For a pair of sport headphones they're pretty nice. I also have a pair of Aiwa noise cancelation headphones that I like, but they're a little big for walking around on campus.
Reply author: korn I use the Shure E5c with the foam pads. Excellent on airplanes (which is the main place I use the Neuros). Shure had a booth at the Home Audio show in San Francisco, and were offering these at a very good price...
Reply author: Drew I use a pair of Grado SR125's, but the Neuros can't drive such a low impedance very well, so I built a (relatively) high current amplifier that drives them. The whole combo sounds excellent.
Reply author: hexcentric1 I'm using the Etymotic <http://www.etymotic.com/> ER6 noise-cancelling earphones most of the time. They are great! Awesome sound, great noise reduction. Perfect for airplanes and road trips in my Jeep.
Reply author: mdt123 Koss PortaPro. They look funky and sound fantastic!
Reply author: Nathan Otis Aiwa HP-X223. These were heavily "slashdotted" when some famous blogger mentioned them. For quite some time almost every programmer/html type in every office I went to had a set of these... At the time they were just over $30 and I don't think they were worth it. Decent bass, but they suffer from enclosed headphone syndrome (strange low-mids and a little tinnyness too boot) However... I just found a set on e-bay a couple weeks ago, and I can tell you, for $5... they're well worth it.
Reply author: elliot Definately recommend the Sennheiser PX200

quote:I'll think about these Sony's that you mentioned. I have a pair of "The Plug" and love them. Well, until the dog managed to break one open. Still works fine though. The only thing that bothers me is the foam from time to time. They're great most of the time, but sometimes, they do some weird shifting. That and they sometimes aren't pleasant to pull out.
Reply author: Zap! I just bought a pair of Sony MDR-EX51LPs tonight. I thought they would be pretty close to the 70LPs, but I guess I thought wrong. The midrange was just missing from them and really subtracted from them overall. At $40 from Best Buy, they are going back tomorrow and I'm just going to pick up a new pair of Koss's "The Plug." Never failed me before.
Reply author: Don The past few days I've been using a pair of Koss noise cancelling phones. They don't work quite as well as the Sony NC (which are full cover as well as NC) but with rebate they were only $20 at CompUsa.
Reply author: Zithromax I use the Koss KSC-35's which are related to the KSC-55's. I hear that they use the same drivers but the 35's cost $10 more some reason.
Reply author: Lou Erickson Many on http://www.head-fi.com/ (mentioned above as well) seem to prefer the Koss KSC-35's to the 55's. I think they use the same driver. The Koss PortaPro and SportaPro do as well. They all sound very similar.
Reply author: marvinspu36 Has anyone compared the Sennheiser PX-200's to the PX-100's? I have listened to the PX-100's and felt the bass was a little too mushy and overpowered the midrange. I am thinking about buying the PX-200's but can't find any locally that I can listen to. I like the size and the way the PX series collapse for storage. If the PX-200's have a little crisper bass and a better balance between bass-mid-high, I will probably buy them. I don't like real heavy bass, but defineatly want to be able to hear the bass and want it to be crisp.
Reply author: atomicated I use Grado SR-60's for now. I plan on saving up a bit of money to get a headphone amp and then a better set of headphones.
Reply author: Lou Erickson marvinspu36, go over to http://www.head-fi.com/ and ask that question in the "Headphones" forum there. You'll get answers.
Reply author: neuropsych i've been pretty happy with Koss the Plug. however, it definitely pays to go to walgreen's or somewhere and get replacement foam inserts. there are some real soft blue ones that are extremely fine textured and expand slowly enough that you can get them in quite deep. I replaced the tube that comes off the Plug with some I made from electrical shrink tubing. if you flatten out the foam thingie along its core axis, you can punch a hole through it with a leather punch and then thread the shrink wrap tube over that. The foam things that come with the Plug are pretty useless. When i am up and about i use the Plug. when i am sitting around in an office or at home, i instead use a better-quality sealed can like Sennheiser hd 280 pro or AKG 271 s. i always use a portable headphone amp with cross feed. got two, one from Xy computing and one from headroom. the former is more portable.

Reply author: webkid You have to purchase the Shures explicitly. They're around $99 for the "economy" variety.
Reply author: Lou Erickson Like every headphone that comes with a new device, the ones included are usually cheap. The Neuros was no exception.
Reply author: marvinspu36 I finally bought the Sennheiser PX200's. I listened to the PX100's at Goodbuys, but was not too impressed. Too much bass. Too mushy sounding. The midrange was not well defined either.
Reply author: Zap! Ok, I'm getting a nice scholarship here soon and decided I needed to treat myself to something very nice. My choice: A pair of ER-6 headphones. I haven't ordered them yet, but I thought that I'd ask around here about them. Anyone else use them with their Neuros? Comments?
Reply author: Lou Erickson Lots of folks like them. They're comparable to the Shures. I have their big brother, the ER-4's. The Neuros will drive the ER-6 very nicely, I am sure.
Reply author: Zap! I'll have to see what this nice little storm that the Atlantic Ocean is so kind to give us Floridians does here soon. Don't want to lose them in the mail...
Reply author: MICHman Hey Lou, I was just about to order the ER-4P's when I came across your post. Are you using the -4S's or -4P's?I thought i would have to use an amp to drive the -4S's with the Neuros, thats why I was going with the -4P's.Please let me know, if you see this post.I'd really rather have the -4S's right now but cant afford the portable amp yet. Thanks
Reply author: Lou Erickson The Neuros drives the 4S just fine. You don't need an amp with it.
Reply author: Sean Starkey I use the Airhead amp for the audio image processor (which makes a big difference to my ears.) But you are right that the Neuros has a lot of driving power.
Reply author: MICHman Thanks guys!I'll order the -4S this week.

quote: I tried the a few of the sealed headphones but my ears must be larger than normal. They don't fit under the seal rings. I bought the Koss PortaPro2s last night. I like 'em! Light and clear. No major pressure points. And not a bad price either ($40). They look funky but I see why they are desinged they way they are. They curve around the upper part of the ear as not to irritate and stay close to the head.
Reply author: alan(at)at-sea.com I'm using Sensaphonics Prophonic IV canalphones ($449) with Xin Technologies SuperDual portable amp ($179). The Sensaphonics are manufactured by Etymotic but to Sensaphonics spec... they are very similar to the ER4P, but have a completely different sound which more closely resembles live monitoring... slightly rolled off high end, better integrated mid and deeper warmer bass. I also use Sony CD3000's when at home, again through the SuperDual. The SuperDual is great because it has a fantastic and very natural sounding bass boost switch, and I always found the Neuros EQ to be a bit disappointing.
Reply author: theFuzzyWarble My last pair of sony buds served me well, for a year or so..
