Joe,

Im sending this to you because I think these are big problems with some of the 442's features.

There are several problems when outputing a video from the 442 to a TV. First, I get ghosts or shadows around everything. This does not happen if the movie is played on the computer or the 442...only when sent to a tv. This has happened consistantly with every tv I have tried and every movie I have tried. Not sure what the problem is.
Second, and most important, the format for the output of video needs to change. This may not be possible, but I hope so: When watching a movie on a tv from the 442 what happens is that the 442 screen is seen on the tv. The problem with this is that the best resolution that is possible is now limited by the resolution of the screen on the 442. If the resolution of the video file is 720x480, it wont matter because the best you can get is the resolution of the 442 screen.

What I propose is that only the video be put through the line out. So you will see the video in its origional resolution.(or at least 640x480) So send the video straight through the output. What seems to happen now is that the video is played on the 442 screen and then sent out the output. Thus getting a max resolution that is low, and then blowing it up on the tv making it worse. If you look on the tv you can see the pixels on the 442 screen. Very, Very annoying. The only benefit I see about seeing the 442 screen on the tv is that you can see if the battery is low.

I know this device is primarily a portable video player, but if you are on a trip and dont want to watch a movie on the little screen in the hotel room it would be nice to be able to send it to the tv and be good quality.

This problem may be limited to the hardware, but I think that it is a big issue and needs to be resolved.

Please post your comments.

Are you talking about files you converted or direct recording to the 442?
My biggest issue is with TV playback quality of direct recorded
video. When Neuros gets VGA recording working Im expecting it will solve my concerns.

If Pocket DVD studio files work on the 422 It may be just what Im looking for.
I want to change the aspect ratio from wide-screen DVD video to full screen for playback on the 442

I have not had this issue with compression artifacts and whatnot, however, I have had a humming noise coming from my tv relative to where I was holding the 442. This was remedied by giving the cable a wiggle.

I have had really good results from playing my videos on my 32" tv. One thing that I have not tried is converting a DVD using the Ulead software. The program I have had great results with is Pocket DVD Studio for Palm.

I have been really disapointed in the output quality when displayed on a TV screen.
It has all the classic over compression artifacts found in highly compressed video content.

I also had the shadow problem... I could not solve it by moving the cables..I even tried wrapping the cables in foil. Still didnt work...not sure that the foil did anyting...but i tried

When I was a kid my mom used to tell me that curiosity killed the cat...What she forgot to tell me was that it also discovered the cat, invented the lightbulb, and forged the Neuros

Again from maillist:

I had the same problem but after moving the video cables a bit the shadows went away...I wonder if it is bad shielding in the video cables?
