You guys are making this too hard. Visit www.jameco.com and pick up these items:
216215- Six gang AA holder, wires ($0.85)
71191- Barrel plug power connector ($0.79)
199865- PPTC resettable fuse ($0.49)(optional)
Then drive on down to your local *Mart and buy a handful of NiMH batteries and a charger. Walmart.com says $18.74 for a charger and 4 AA batteries; I'm certain I've paid less for them elsewhere.
Total cost is going to end up under $30, depending on how many batteries you elect to purchase, and you can use the NiMH in other things as well!
Remember, though, NiMH batteries don't keep very long. Once charged, they immediately start to lose juice, so use 'em quick. Probably best not to store them in the charger, either. ;-)

If you really get lazy, you can go to a "Batteries Plus." They are all over America. Chances are that they will have a pack which works just fine. If they do not, they WILL put one together for you for only the price of parts.
Just more to chew on...

Okay, a little elaboration.
The battery holder should have two wires on it: red and black. Connect the black wire to the pin which connects to the OUTSIDE of the barrel connector, and the red wire to one of the leads of the fuse. Then connect the other lead of the fuse to the pin connecting to the INSIDE of the barrel connector.
Heatshrink around the fuse leads isn't a bad idea, and you can leave the fuse out entirely if you like, but as I mentioned in a prior topic, the batteries will happily provide enough current to cause a major problem.
I'm not actually making one of these, nor have I, so I can't take pics or anything like that. If you aren't comfortable doing it based on these posts, you probably shouldn't be doing it at all, since it does require basic electronic assembly skills. |

Where the FUSE go connected to?
