Joe, just wondering if the N2 will ever get any new firmware or has it been discontinued. (company created firmware)

| I second that question. I have looked at this post everyday since it was posted waiting for an answer. It seems like a simple yes or no question. Perhaps the answer is not so simple? |

Seconded (or is that... thirded?). Definitely hoping for new firmware. Whatever happened to GarBage, too? He seems to have fallen off the face of the earth.

Sorry for the slow response.
Well Garbage is around, I talk to him almost everyday, he set up the whole new OdNT. His Neuros was out of commission and we had some shipping problems in sending him new ones. I expect you may be seeing some new firmware out of him. Regarding official releases on the N2, I really hate to divert substantial resources away from the new products on that, I would much rather support the open source community on the N2, but it's certainly something we can talk about.

My 2 cents regarding the N2 is move to Open Source and keep your resources focused on the N3. I love my N2, but with all the "new" products hitting the market i.e. iPod Nano, etc., I would prefer to see your (Neuros) focus on the release of new, competitive products and support rather than continued support at production level of the current ones. My experience with Neuros through the N2 has been extremely positive and I keep "spreading" the word with everyone I come in contact with. They are "put off" by the size of the N2 80GB until they see it in action and hear the sound. I trust this is only the beginning for the "next generation" of both the 442 and the N3? So, putting you on the spot Joe, any "updated" ETA for the beta of the N3? Ron

my only argument to this is that it would really be unfortunate if someone were to buy a product expecting lots of features upgrades and stuff and then being dissapointed when they stop a year later because of a new model. I do not think this is going to happen with the N3. But it would also be nice to make all new devices compliant with newer firmware...make generic firmware that senses the hardware and then sets itself to the player. So you could use new features on the N2 that have been developed for the N3...with only the features disabled that will not work with the older player...
just a thought...

Derek, I didn't think about that. That does make sense and would be a nice thing to do. Ron
