I was very pleased to find out that my Neuros 442 will play video's recorded by my cheap digital camera that I got at Wal-Mart for $100. The format created by my camera is ASF, so I thought, hey, why I don't I just pop out the SD card and throw it in the 442 player?
I worked. It was cool. It played the video!
But not cool--it didn't play the audio.
I was not at all pleased when I found out that although the video from the movie played fine, it played with no audio output on the 442. I thought maybe it was a problem with the volume, so I fiddled with that, went to another movie, but it turned out that this movie was simply not playing the audio, whereas when I put the card back into my camera, the movie plays fine on the mini LCD and the sound comes over the built-in speaker.
So, is there something that I can do to make the ASF movies from my camera compatible with the 442 player? Are there different ways to imbed the sound in an ASF movie or what? The sound still plays on the original device, but not on the 442. That's weird. The videos also play the audio fine in Windows.
The bottom line is this: I want to be able to record movies on my camera and immediately watch them on my 442 player. This is a very cool feature that almost works. Is there something that can be updated in the firmware to do this? How can I get the sound to play while playing the video on the 442?
Yes, I am using headphones as well as displaying the movie on an external television--I'm not just expecting to hear the 442 make sound, as it has no internal speaker (but it would be nice if it did!).
How about it? I can create and send a sample ASF movie that works on my camera but not on the 442, if anybody wants a movie to work with.

the .asf file may have an audio codec that is currently unsupported by the 442. if you email me the file, i will take a look at it over the coming weekend.
if you cant wait till then...download a program called Gspot. its a tool for detecting video and audio of a file. once you find out what codec it uses let me know.
When I was a kid my mom used to tell me that curiosity killed the cat...What she forgot to tell me was that it also discovered the cat, invented the lightbulb, and forged the Neuros |

I can wait. I'll send a short file from the camera that shows the audio problem. Thanks!
