Sorry, tried to figure this out from your website - a nice FAQ on what the differences are between these two would be a big bonus. I want to get video from my TV/Tivo into my Mac and onto my Smartphone and eventually onto a Video iPod. I don't have a PSP.
Looks like the 2 supports higher resolution (640x480) though it does not have a USB port (which would be nice for me). What are the other major differences? Thanks.

| I think the Recorder 2 has a Memory Stick slot for use with a PSP. Other than that, I don't know the differences. |

MJK- There are 5 differences: - The Recorder 2 (R2) has a higher recording resolution for those who want to playback videos on their TV (up to VGA + a resolution optimized for the PSP), The recorder 1 resolution is QVGA (optimized for portable devices), which is optimized for small screens. - The R2 records in MPEG4 for video and MP3 stereo for audio (AAC), as the R1 records in the ASF format and use the G.726 codec for audio. The files recorded with the R2 will play on the iPod, not the ones created with R1. - The R2 has no USB port (you can use your PSP, or sony camera or Handheld to transfer content to your PC), the R1 as one and can be used as a card reader. - The R2 has a memory stick and a CF slot, the R1 a SD and CF slot. - R2 comes bundled with the TCPMP software and R1 comes bundled with a conversion software (Ulead).
To summarize, the R2 gets you a higher recording quality (for audio and video), but you will need a way to transfer content onto your PC: either a device with a USB connection and a memory stick or CF slot if you don't have any on your PC (PSP, sony camera or handhelds for memory stick slot, and Pocket PC and PDA for CF slot). You can also use a USB card reader (they cost $10+ and we are looking into offering some in the next few weeks). Keep in mind that the transfer of files to the iPod will have to be done through iTune (once you transfer the file to your PC, you have to import it in iTune).
Sooo, if you want to put content on the iPod, you should get the Recorder 2. But if you want to get content on a PDA, Pocket PC or smartphone and look for a cheaper alternative, the R1 will do just fine, all you need is to install the TCPMP software (The Core Pocket Media Player, which is free and open source) on your handheld.
Did I answer your question?

Thank you...
Is there any difference in the recording interface between the 2 versions?
To record from my digital cablebox, I assume I can only schedule time on the channel that the box is set to?
I think version 1 with my cable company's digital pvr would be an awesome setup for getting content on my pocket pc, or just out of the cable pvr (which has 0 connectivity) and DVDs, but I would like to make sure there is scheduled recording options. Is there an online manual?

| Yes the Recorder I has scheduled recording options with a firmware upgrade thats available on the neuros site. I would still probably reccommend the Recorder II only because of better video and audio quality and VGA recording which the Recorder I does not have. |
