We just received our MPEG Recorder 2 and are disppointed to discover that despite the claim on the web page, it does *not* support Sony Memory Stick Pro. The MS slot will only accomodate a Memory Stick Duo, and no adapter for the bigger Memory Stick Pro (of which we have many) is provided.

What do we do?

A follow-up:

I bought my lifepartner some MS Pro Duo sticks so her Yule gift would not be useless, and they work fine in her MS-based device (a Sony Clie) and in the MPEG Recorder 2 as well. That was money I was not expecting to spend this year.

But we have found no adapters to fit an MS Pro stick to an MS Duo slot, other than a very specialized kludge designed for a particular Sony camera.

The best solution may be something like this:

http://www.mittoni.com.au/4in1-cf-compactflash-adapter-p-1272.html

...which adapts various devices (including MS Pros) to a CF slot.

But the web page at

http://www.neurostechnology.com/store/recorder2_specs.asp

very clearly says:

Storage Card Compatibility:
Memory Sticks:
Memory Stick Duo
--> Memory Stick Pro <--
Memory Stick Pro Duo

...which is as far as I can see is just plain incorrect.

"Pro" is an electrical spec, while "Duo" is a form factor...non Duo sticks won't fit in a Duo slot.

The web page *seriously* needs to be corrected.

Neuros seems to have a problem describing it's products. The errors are both of omission and of commision.

The description for recorder 1 is badly flawed.

I can't recomend this company to others and that's a shame because these devices are so close to being a killer app.

I think maybe these folks used to work for microsoft!

I'm slightly confused. Which stick does it support?

The MS "Pro" is the larger stick & the MS "Pro duo" is the smaller stick (the one that fits in psp), correct?

Thanks.

I tested the Recorder 2 with Duo and Duo Pro cards. The Pro cards (longer cards) do not fit in the PSP slot. I am waiting for feedback on the Pro cards and will post an update on the forum as soon as I get an answer.

FJ,
At this point there is not really any ambiguity as to whether or not a standard MS Pro will work. It will not, the website was wrong.

As MaggieL has stated, Memory Stick Duo is a smaller card, physically, than the original Memory Stick. If the slot on the reader is a Duo only slot then it won't take a non-Duo stick. Period. (At least not without an adapter. However, no one is likely to make an adapter so an older, larger, Memory Stick can work in place of the newer, smaller, one. In most devices that use MS Duo the card is either flush with the device or completely enclosed. A MS to MS Duo adapter would stick out of the device over an inch, if it fit at all.)
You both have stated that a non-Duo Memory Stick will not fit in the slot. What stronger indicator could there be that it is, in fact, a Duo only card slot.

The Recorder 2 spec page has already been corrected. I read this thread yesterday and sent an email to the webmaster. The page was fixed when I checked it again this afternoon. I also suggested to the webmaster that he or she should post here about the correction but that obviously did not happen.

---

MaggieL,
If you see something on a website that you know is wrong then the quickest way to get it fixed is to email the webmaster. The email address webmaster@<website>.com (.net, etc.) is used on most sites.

If it didn't fit at all, it wouldn't be a MS-to-Duo adapter now, would it? :-)

How about correct technical specs? :-)

Having put up my first website about ten years ago, the concept of "webmaster" is not unfamiliar. I thought perhaps there was other sales collateral that needed fixing as well. I had a parallel process running with the support email address, which has dissolved into incoherency, probably due to insane levels of pre-Yule demand for this still very cool device.

Surely a forum topic labelled "Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder 2 Feedback" is an appropriate place for feedback on the Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder 2...unless it simply exists for viral marketing by fanboyz. But thinking that would be cynical... :-)

Certainly no less cynical than to think that this forum simply exists to stamp one's foot and pout.

Or to make defensive equivocations about what you meant.

Hi Folks,

Just thinking why not get a CF 5-1 Card Adaptor these are available everywhere. Then you could put in any card........

Johan if you source a link say like expansys then you could market all cards and then update your firmware for the variety of handhelds you wish to support....
