Anyone have trouble with mpeg4 films downloaded off of the internet archive ( http://www.archive.org/ )
Last night, with the movie "british intelligence" it froze and I had to reset it at around 7mins 25 seconds into the movie. Also, on the second attempt (starting after I fast-forwarded to this point, I lost sound somewhere around 20 minutes into the film (i could pause it, and then i would get audio and about five seconds of screen movement until the screen froze while the sound kept going).
I know I had this happen to me with another mpeg4 movie, one of the BBS documentaries, and the Bob Hope film that was on there and I'm wondering if i'd be better off trying to convert all of these to divx. Note, this doesn't seem to happen with video that I capture with the unit itself.
So i'm just wondering what experiences other people had. It seems that this mpeg4 file format isn't one that the 442 likes, even though it will play it. It isn't a large download (I chose the better quality (256kbps?) of the two mpeg4 formats -- it may be interesting for someone else to try playing it through to see if they have the same hangup..
By the way, anyone interested in downloading content should check this site out. They use many PCs linked together (with IDE drives) to create a supercomputer with terabytes of data. I noticed that the slim offering from divx.com is mostly content that is freely available from the archive.

| Thank you for pointing out this site. It is fascinating. I haven't had any trouble with playback but I have been downloading the shorter clips. The one feature length film I downloaded starts out alright but I haven't have time to watch much of it. |

Wow, what a cool archive. I haven't finished the d/l movies yet, so sorry no testing help there yet.
Looks like also some surprisingly good open source media creation programs also can be found there. Thanks for the great link!
