I accidentally assigned a song to one of the buttons some time ago (okay, a year+ ago), and every once in a while I accidentally press it (leaning over, etc...) when I do not have the locl slider engaged, and that causes music to begin playing at that same track again.

I'd like those buttons to not work at all, if possible...

Any suggestions?

I don't see any options in NDBM, I could try installing NSM if that has an "un-assign" option, nothing in the menues on the device either, and I do not see a file if I connect it to USB...

I don't mind a NAND format, but I'd prefer not to reformat the drive (though I suppose I could copy the music off of there first...), though I haven't done that in a few years.

Well the lock switch is there for a reason, i recommend you activate it when you are doing your activities.  As far as the format goes, reformatting the NAND will only erase the flash memory on the player.  Formatting the HD will make you lose everything, thats why its recommend to back up all your music.  And in your case, this might be the best thing to do.  Its pretty simple, just with the unit turned off, and nothing connected, press and hold presets 1 and 5, then while these are pressed, power on the unit.  It will take you to diagnosis mode.  Here you want to begin the process in this order:

Format hard drive -> format media -> format file system

then

format NAND disk -> revive bad blocks -> format NAND disk

After all this is done, go back and exit out, and let the changes save (little circle at the bottom will be blinking, wait until it stops).  Then you should be good to go with a fresh new Neuros.
