I am looking to buy a Neuros OSD to encode a TON of VHS tapes.. A few years ago I bought a Plextor ConvertX PX-M402U for this purpose but it failed on two counts:

  • It's real-time DIVX encoding could not emulate 'two pass' so the quality wasn't that great.
  • I had to use a TimeBase Corrector (TBC) or the sound and video would go out of sync.

Does the Neuros OSD do a better job of encoding VHS tapes?

Does anyone have any examples posted someplace of captures from the Neuros OSD?

thanks!

The quality of the recording will depend on the quality of the source you record from. We will not make the video look better since it is a real-time, 1-pass recording. Yiu can however reencode the content once it is in the MP4 format, but I am not sure this is what you are looking for.

Send me your email and I can tell you where you can access some of my video using the OSD.

I believe what Johan is saying is that you can record the tapes at a high bit rate and then transcode with 2 pass transcoding on the PC if you are worried about file size.  In the comparisons that I've seen the OSD's encoding looks as good as anything for SD resolution, and before we chose this solution we compared it to capture cards and DVD recorders, etc.

You certainly should not have lipsync issues on any recordings, just be sure to use our production firmware.
