Hi there,
Just been looking at some movies I have that are saved as AVIs, DivX encoded 720*576 resolution. They all seem to bomb out after an hour of watching, but if I restart them, fastforward to just beyond the point where they bomb out, I can then watch the rest of the movie in peace. What's going on? Does anyone have a fix for this?
Thanks for any info, M

What does "bomb out" mean? And what does the OSD do as a result? What version of Divx? Anything after 5.2.1 needs a certified player. The first fix that comes to mind is to try Xvid instead.

Thats a new one. I have only found a few divx / Xvid files that wont work with this thing. Usually they just hang when loading or have sync issues when they play, which is not very often. I didnt do any research on the files that i have for resolution / frame rate etc, but on my unit when it plays it plays forever, it even loops sometimes . -Tree

What I mean by bombing out is that the movie stops and then you are returned to the menu where you chose the movie from. I'm using a USBDisk formatted to FAT32 as well.

Hey that's a new one to me too. What firmware are you running? Have you tried the latest? Where did you get these files? Do they play without any warnings in VLC past the hour mark? (bring up the Messages window to check). -G

Firmware is 3.33-1.60. I made these files using clone DVDmobile from Slysoft. I've been watching these movies without any bother using VLC (I have to say my favourite viewer) on Ubuntu 7.10 (back as far as 6.06) and Vector Linux computers without any problems, but to be honest I've never checked the messages as I've never had a need. Will do that now and let you know.

Just watched one of the movies using VLC player on Ubuntu 7.10. Nothing in particular happened at the hour mark, but I do get these messages constantly throughout the movie:
main debug: audio output is starving ([5 digit number]), playing silence alsa debug: recovered from buffer underrun.
However, there is no noticeable sound issue.

Well, Divx is slowly changing their format away from the last free version 5.2.1 and trying to make a run for a proprietary paid codec. I imagine their strategy has something to do with the weird behavior. That's just IMHO though.

Hey, By any chance does clone DVDmobile insert chapter markings? Chapters are a really new concept for DivX files & I don't know if the OSD can deal with them. The usual QC check is that if VLC can play it, the OSD should.
It's annoying that this occurs after an hour of continuous playback. Something like this should be reported to Neuros, I'd usually create a [http://bugzilla.neurostechnology.com]bug[/URL] and attach a segment of the troublesome file, but you'd need to attach a huge file!
If you're interested in helping out, and have lots of bandwidth to spare, I can give you more info on how to send the file to Neuros & help them debug this issue. -G

I've had something similar happen to me this last weekend.
About an hour into it, it started playing audio from a different file, a little bit after that it froze up. Though it didn't complete lock up the OSD.
It's really freaky seeing a cat and dog start talking like Popeye.
Video = DIVX Audio = a52

Since a PC has a lot more memory than the OSD, it can do a lot more with files that have been encoded incorrectly. Based on the message you see on VLC, there is some issue with the audio track of the videos you try to playback. The audio buffer issue could explain why the OSD gives up on the playback after a while (since a PC has more flash memory, it is more likely to be able to keep correcting the problem during the playback). If you can get us a file with this issue, we will take a look at it. Email me at jabadieATneurosDOTus

Sure, you can ftp it to ftp.neuros.com.cn. The username is "neurosftp" with password "qwer1234". Would you please create a bug with your problem in it? Then upload your file in OSD-test-files, with the bug number in the filename.
This "accounting" helps keep things organised. Many thanks! Helping Neuros helps you (and me too!)! -G
