On the Neuros webpage it says that Cable TV shows cannot be recorded directly from a coaxial cable line. They can only be recorded if the user has a set top box(I do not have one). It says I will need a special converter if I wish to download TV shows. Can anyone help me out here on exactly what I need? I haven't bought one yet but I am planning on it if there is indeed a way to record from coaxial(Cable TV without set top box), maybe there is a hack to allow this?............I'm a computer guy so I'm sure I could do it if there was indeed a way.

The reason the OSD cannot record direct from coax is that it lacks a hardware tuner.

If you can find some type of tuner (set top box, VCR, stand-alone tuner, etc.) you can use that to convert channel X to an Composite / S-Video signal that the OSD can see.

There is another topic around here somewhere where someone found a tuner that works well, but I don't remember what brand/model it was.

The simplest choice - you can run the signal through to a VCR or DVD-recorder and then to the Neuros. If you're going to use a VCR's tuner, make sure it has S-video out. Watch out though, some new & real cheap VCR's and or DVD recorders do not have tuners anymore.

Or as a computer guy, you can buy a tuner on a card for your PC - of course, this means your computer needs to be on but those are your easiest choices.

You can also look into the analog to digital converter box thing (with the gov't $40 coupon) - not sure if it fits your scenario as I have no idea if the box accepts coax ...

Yes, the government-subsidized tuners will accept coax.  However, not all of them have RCA (red-white-yellow) analog output.
Take a look at this for more information: http://www.neurostechnology.com/digital-ota-conversion
I assume you are watching TV from an antenna?  If so, you may want to get a digital converter box that has RCA (red-white-yellow) outputs, because, come February 17, 2009, you will not be able to watch *any* TV without a digital tuner.
