I was trying to cut a recording that I did on the OSD to trim the head and tail off the video file.  I've heard some good things about avidemux and found that it had a nice intuitive interface, and that it produced nice output when played back on itself or with VLC.  But the file I saved would not playback on the OSD, it just seemed to hang.  To edit the video, i recorded a bit to a file called osd.mp4 on an NFS share, and loaded it with avidemux.  Then I chose COPY for both the video and audio codecs, and mp4 for the "format".  I selected the regions to delete, deleted them and then saved the resulting video to a file called osd_edit.mp4 which was very fast and played back as expected on both avidemux and vlc.  But when I tried to load the file on the OSD it sort of hung, and nothing displayed.

Does anyone have any hints for how to debug this?

I did discover that I was mistakenly not ensuring that all cuts were being done on key frames, this helped, but the results are still not 100% with the OSD.  Sometimes it will play the resulting video, at other times not.  I also noted that while VLC will play the resulting video, the gnome Movie Player (with xine backend) will not.
