Title: Problem with the remote
Post by: cipher17 on September 26, 2006, 10:44:53 PM
Hi,

I just recieved my OSD unit today. I hooked up the OSD to my TV through
RCA cable and powered on the unit. After briefly displaying the startup
screen, the display changed to the main menu (which shows File Browser,
Recorder, Settings, Applications options). But thats it. That is all
that happens. I can't seem to control the unit using the remote. When I
press up/down keys (or any other keys) on the remote, the LED on the
remote flickers, but nothing changes on the display. I have tried using
the remote at various distances to the sensor (infact even right on top
of it) but it doesn't help. I did program the remote as instructed
(holding set, NTSC/PAL buttons and then entering 0 6 4). The clock at
the bottom of the display keeps ticking.

Any help to get started here would be appreciated.

thanks.

When you press the ntsc/pal button and the set button at the same time make sure the led on your remote comes on and stays on then enter 0 6 4 sequentially. Hope this helps!!

FWIW, I "programmed" the remote when I received the OSD and it worked for about five minutes. Then some of the buttons on the remote stopped working, and after i did the set+ntsc 0 6 4-trick again it started working again.

cipher17,

Please try below steps:
1. Remove battery and plug in OSD power without battery Check if Remote Controller work well, if not, please do,
2.Pull off the OSD power, Connect Serial Interface to PC, open terminal and set bitrate to 115200, and then plug in OSD power without battery again
3.You can see information from terminal, and when OSD enter the Main Menu(File browser, Recorder...), Please press PC keyboard 'x' key (lowercase), OSD will display windows with About/System reboot
4.Please choose 'About' option, press PC keyboard 'Enter' key when cursor on the 'About' option. You can see Version information, Please give me the Version number.

I used ProComm on a PC Laptop with settings of 8-N-1 ZModem 115200

Pressed x after booting and the video stream was viewed, thats when the
menu could be seen and accessed using the keyboard. After setting the
clock and IP address. I still could not get the remote to work. Noticed
while in the remote menu It hung the system up and I had to reboot the
OSD. Still did not bring up menu without using the x key after reboot.
I did get it to record a video stream and play it back using the
keyboard. So I can live without the remote for awhile. But there is
something wrong with either the remote or the program. I will try
several more attempts to find the issue but at least its a start.
Noticed the clock runs fast and avi file format did not record
correctly.

So far its typical, frustrating but rewarding
When you start understanding what others are trying to go through with
little or no documentation it makes you try harder so don't give up.
Remember its FUN! :o

I did all that, several times, thought getting away from it for a day would help my frustration and then try again today. I'll let you know if I ever get it. I did notice if you go into the menu remote control screen that the text is all garbled up (Binary) in the text field for the teach remote buttons. Also trying to teach it in the menu creates a issue where I cant get out unless I unplug OSD. It is not seeing any signal from remote at all. And wont let me back out.
