Title: File Browser: reading from USB
Post by: johnnymac on September 26, 2006, 11:16:10 PM
Greetings,
I opened the Neuros today and decided to immediately upgrade.

I downloaded the file (osd-3.18-0.13.upk) to both a portable usb flash key and powered usb drive. Neither is recognized by the Neuros. When I navigate to the file explorer and then to USB, the system will pause and the "choke" and go to a blue screen. By pressing any button, the screen returns, however, there is no data displayed. I formatted the usb devices as FAT32.

Any thoughts?
John

Well, USB is known to be unstable at the moment.  I can't get it to work at all...for the time being I'd recommend picking up a compact flash memory card.  They're cheap.

I can answer my own question here.
I was not able to upgrade using a USB key or USB hard drive. I used a SD card and the upgrade proceeded with no problems.  After the upgrade, the USB key was recognized and could read the files.  Unfortunately, the player would not display images or short videos from the USB device.

I was able to upgrade using a Secure Digital memory card without any problem.  However, I can't even access the USB drive that is hooked up to the OSD.  I've tried two different drives, and each one had different problems.

The first drive was the 80 GB Neuros MP3 player.  (What can I say...I like your products! :-)  The problem I had hooking that up to the OSD was that the MP3 player kept trying to synchronize.  That went on for over half an hour before I had to cancel it.

The second USB hard drive that I tried hooking up is a 500 GB one.  That one doesn't even show up when I go into the main menu and look under File Browser.  Can the BIOS on the OSD recognize a USB drive that large?  I had to upgrade my PC's BIOS to get it to recognize the hard drive, so I'm curious if the OSD has the same problem.

Any help on either of these problems?

I upgraded to the 3.20-0.16 version and found that the only way I could get a usb drive connected was to pwower down the OSD then plug it back in, then it would find the usb drive. If the OSD rebooted it could not find the usb drive.

Stupid question - Where is the latest firmware located?  The page I normally check is http://www.neurostechnology.com/support/support_updates_beta.asp, and that is still listing the most recent version as 3.18-0.13

I'll try upgrading the firmware (I was able to do that with my SD card first try) and see how that works.

Thanks.  I just downloaded that version.  The USB is still unstable, from the looks of the page.  I'll change my bookmark to this page, since it looks more up-to-date than the one I had been checking.
