Title: Mac OSX won't recognize my Neuros
Post by: footballer on September 29, 2006, 03:09:22 PM
I tried to connect my Neuros to a Mac today (PowerPC G5 running OS X 10.4.7) but the Neuros was not recognized.  I am able to connect it to Windows XP machines with no problem.  I've searched the old NeurosAudio forums but I wasn't able to find a resolution.  Here is some additional info:

- Neuros I with 20GB USB 2.0 backpack, Firmware v2.28
- I've run "Format NAND Disk" and "Revive Bad Blocks" and tried again, still no luck
- On the Mac, it doesn't show up in Disk Utility, but it's present in System Profiler (data below)
- I have an Iomega external USB 2.0 hard drive that works fine
- I've tried multiple USB ports on the Mac with the same result
- I tried connecting my Neuros to a friends Intel-based Mac laptop as well and it wasn't recognized on that machine either
- If I use the USB 1.1 cable, the Mac recognizes and mounts the Neuros (read-only of course)

Has anyone experienced this before and found a way to resolve it?  Is there a way to mount it manually?

Thanks.

Unless your PowerMac is also running MS Windows, you won't be able to do this.

Once you format a drive using MS (for MS purposes) it becomes "read only in Mac applications.

I know that Mac is continually updating OS X, and that the latest versions (with boot camp) will *RUN* Windows apps.

I think you can get boot camp as an add-on feature.  Something to check into.

Thanks, but I'm pretty sure others have been able to succesfully mount their Neuros and sync using NDBM.
Here are a couple of old threads discussing it:

footballer, there are three things that I would try, though be careful with 2 & 3....

1) Try connecting just the backpack with the "brain" removed.  I've noticed that firmware glitches in the brain can sometimes cause a lock-up.  This removes the firmware from the equation entirely.

2) Make sure you've run the 10.4.8 update that was released last weekend.  I don't think there were any USB updates, but it may not be a glitch in USB in particular.  (I would also suggest running "Verify Disk" and "Verify Permissions" under Disk Utility.  It seems to be the catch-all response to most OSX support requests, and if the mount-point has bad permission settings, that could very well be the cause.)

3) If you know UNIX at all, you can run mount from the terminal.  I personally haven't played around with OSX's command line to feel comfortable giving you the steps, though.
