Title: Codec for ASF files? Post by: tonicboy on October 03, 2006, 09:12:18 PM Hi,
So I was able to successfully record a sample video and played it back through the OSD, but I can't manage to play it back on my computer. I'm having a hard time finding the codec which is apparently "MP4S" or "Microsoft ISO MPEG-4 Video v1.0 (MP4S)". Any pointers? Hopefully I won't ever have to deal with ASF again after AVI support is improved, but in the meantime... Thanks, tonicboy Title: Re: Codec for ASF files? Post by: Rara on October 04, 2006, 12:42:10 PM I couldn't find that codec anywhere; I ended up switching over to the VLC media player at least for the time being, until the MP4/AVI file constructors get sorted out in the firmware.
you can find VLC at www.videolan.org and it seems to be a pretty solid player and plays the ASF files pretty well. Title: Re: Codec for ASF files? Thanks, tonicboy ASF seems to occur in various places so I doubt you can just skip it but being a container format, the data inside it can use a variety of codecs - MPEG1/2/4 , etc. I'm not sure on MP4 formats but quicktime can play it, not sure about real player. Anything can play it if you use FFDSHOW (same thing is used by VLC but internally). Title: Re: Codec for ASF files? I've got about 4 hours worth of important video (in-car racing footage) I recorded in .asf using 3.20-0.18, i've found I can play it on my PC w/ the VLC media player; but when i try to transcode it into other formats, it is still unreadable by other media players, and especially by several different DVD authoring programs. i've tried a number of different codecs and file types, trying many of the common combinations, and even a few oddballs. Is there any known good transcoding software or tricks that can help me get these to where I can burn them to a standard DVD format? Title: Re: Codec for ASF files?
