Title: Clock Issues
Post by: yanvrno on October 04, 2006, 04:02:56 PM
My clock seems to be loosing 15 minutes in  a 4 hour period, anyone else seen this issue?

I can't say much on this as I don't have an OSD yet (coming soon according JB  ;D) but it sounds similar to the problem I had with my Linksys NSLU2 - lack of an RTC so something has to sync the time using NTP. I've set my NSLU2 to sync once every 15 mins (I know it's too quick but it's not big traffic so I just left it) but it used to do it once every hour.

Is there any such thing in the OSD's Linux? Are you blocking such traffic at your firewall?

Hi,yanvrno.
I have not seen the issue you refer.
A couple of things
1.When you upgrade SW of OSD every time, the clock will  speed up about  2 minutes.

2.Leave OSD alone  9 days, do not plug in power, the colck will delay about 5 minutes.

Could you tell me what do you do for OSD(such as upgrade, IRblaster test, etc.) before you dicover the Clock issue.
Thanks.
Caven

Caven, could you explain the reason for the 2 minute speed up? Also with the 5 minute over a 9 day period, does the OSD not use any form of NTP to sync the clock? If not, shouldn't it be a quick fix to add a cron job (or whatever you use for scheduling) along with cron or some other scheduler (there is one isn't there?)

Adding NTP is definately on the to-do list, but obviously we have to fix the basic fundamentals first (stable multimedia, getting USB to work, etc)

There are two bugs here for those of you following bugzilla.

Well, I suppose the NTP package needs to be small enough to fit within the EEPROM and also you shouldn't overload the NTP server (now where is that google list?) Also, out of curiosity, is there any circuit diagram or proper details on the implementation of the RTC?

Hi,AsGF2MX.
1. 2 minutes speed up after upgrade, this issue happen in 3.20-0.16 pre-version, I guess this is a mini SW bug.
    Have be fixed now.

2.For add NTP, as Joe explain, on the to-do list.

Was wondering if it was software or hardware, thanks for the info. Interesting info on the NTP.

Hope I can get my OSD soon so that I can start messing with it  ;D

Not sure if  replacing the battery or upgrading firmware helped but clock is closer to being insync now.

Now that I can better trust the clock. I seem to be having issue with the timed recording feature. Either it does not work all the time or it lags a few seconds before it starts. And I mean most of the time it just will not start. Whats the trick to make this work every time? Am I in the wrong screen when the time has arrived? I'm at a loss.

What I do wish for is an added option ("Daily" "Weekly") is of an  "Hourly" setting.  I would like to beable to repeat an hourly recording of maybe @ 5 minute or a 30 second interval. I am trying to use this now with a video mixer recording multiple camera inputs viewing wildlife (Whitetails). If I could get this to record for short time periods over several hours I could better watch their patterns. Kind of a poor mans time lapse digital capture device.

What about an option to beable to remove the semi-trasparant screen and the Time on the monitor.

Why after 10 seconds does the units screen go blank I find I that if I go to the application screen it will stay active. Is there a reason this needs to shut off?

I am starting to like this more that I have network sharing.

Thanks for any help.

------ About the timed recording,it is a known issue, you can see the detailed information in bugzilla:http://bugzilla.neurosaudio.com/show_bug.cgi?id=693

What about an option to beable to remove the semi-trasparant screen and the Time on the monitor.
------Do you mean that you want to goto the pass thru mode,if yes, hold  BACK key, then it will goto the pass thru.

Why after 10 seconds does the units screen go blank I find I that if I go to the application screen it will stay active. Is there a reason this needs to shut off?
-----can you describe this issue more detailed,I don't konw how to duplicated.

Thanks

Kelly

The Back key you mention does nothing other than go back to the first menu screen where it is a bit difficult to view the video stream. Just wish I could by-pass the menu or at least the haze (semi-transparant screen).

After 10 seconds my unit  goes to a non video screen (Blue in my case) I have to press a button on the remote to bring up the video stream again.

Is there a way to start and stop the record feature thru the network?

I know I can do it with the serial interface and the remote but if I could start recording thru a network computer I would be delighted. You see I have this OSD system connected up to several cameras running thru a multiplexer. I am monitoring whitetail deer in my yard. The unit is in the home office next door. I can see the activity from my kitchen window but without going to the office I can not turn the OSD Record feature on. I would also like some sort of ability to trigger the OSD to turn on with a remote switch (NPN or PNP) , such as motion detection,  lazer beam being broken or some sort of contacts. This change of state would start and stop the record feature with a timing routine. I know it probally too soon to be asking for this feature but I have been having great success using this unit to record and playback some large buck activity.  (just for you hunters out there, I shot a 19 point whitetail 190+ boone and crocket buck this year, and yes its a Record breaker) So you can see why I'm so excited abut this units abilities and future capabilities.
