Title: Recorded video is jumpy... Post by: SockMonkey on November 30, 2006, 10:39:26 PM Hey guys...
Yesterday I noticed the new 3.26-0.30 firmware, downloaded it, and installed it on my OSD. Next I tried to record both an MPG4 and an ASF video onto a 1GB SanDisk Ultra II CF Card. In both instances, the recordings came out very jumpy. Okay, maybe "Very" is a strong word, but about every 5 - 8 seconds the video would "blip." These jumps or blips do not exist in the original recording. I am trying to record something off my DirecTV DVR (HR20) and have it attached with the composite cables (not S-Video). The sound was great and I didn't notice any blips in the audio when the video jumped. And it wasn't like I lost the video for a long time, or even for a second. It was more like a split-second and just barely noticeable. However, it was noticeable enough to be very annoying. I noticed this was happening while the recording was being made. And then it was there upon playback too. I made sure to check that. Anyway, I'm aware of the Beta status and I'm just posting this more for informational purposes. However, if someone knows a reason why this might be happening, please let me know and I'll try anything you suggest. Likewise, if you see the same problem, please let me know so I know it's not just with my OSD. Unfortunately, this was the first time I had actually recorded anything successfully. Previous attempts failed because the OSD couldn't see my CF card. Then I found out here on the forums that I needed it formatted as FAT32. Thanks! Bob Title: Re: Recorded video is jumpy... Playback the recorded ASF and MP4 file,is the MP4 file more severe than ASF fiel? OSD's input is PAL or NTSC? Epcept the JUMP,there are any other problem?such as A/V out of sync? do you use other cards to record? I set the DVD's input as PAL,then record video,Resolution as 512 *400,then when recording, the video picture is jumping, playback is also jumping. But if set as NTSC,it is ok. Unfortunately, I have since deleted the files so I don't have them to play back again. However, I recall both being about equal as far as the jumps/blips go. And, in both cases, it was at the same spot. Because of that, I specifically checked the playback of the recorded program on my DirecTV DVR. It played perfectly. I believe the OSD's input is NTSC. Is that a setting on the OSD? Being in the USA, my output from my DVR should be in NTSC. So if the OSD's input is controlled by the output of the source, then it's NTSC. I did notice that the playback of the ASF file seemed like it had missing horizontal lines throughout the picture. I'm not sure how to explain this, but it looked a lot more "rough" than the MP4 recording. For example, the text of the opening credits looked really bad in the ASF. I didn't notice any other problems with my recordings. No audio synch problems. I was recording at the second to the highest resolution possible. Don't remember exactly what it was... 640 x 4?? It wasn't 640 x 480 though. I thought that was strange when I first saw it. Oh, and I haven't used any other cards to record. However, I do have a 1GB and a 2GB SD card I could try. Both are SanDisk and both are the Ultra II series cards. Bob Title: Re: Recorded video is jumpy... Post by: Rara on December 09, 2006, 02:44:06 AM Kelly,
I am having a similar issue as described above, but not exactly the same with the -34 firmware. My recorded video is dropping frames every 7-10 seconds, both when played back on the OSD and when played back on a PC. I have tried it with both .mp4 and .asf file types (the only two types available to choose) and the MPEG4 codec being the only option available to choose no matter which file type. I have tried several resolutions, and it seems to be the same on each one I tried. Aside from the dropped frames, this firmware seems to be much better than previous versions, especially a/v sync which is now very good so far for me. I am using a Transcend 8GB CF card, and the source is composite from a progressive scan NTSC DVD player, and the source was turned on before powering up the OSD to ensure proper signal recognition (NTSC vs. PAL, I actually had a problem with that before and didn't know why until I read the notes for the -34 firmware release.) Also of note, the quality of the displayed pass through video while recording is VERY jumpy (horizontal lines jump back and forth) , and much poorer than the recorded video quality. It also seems to drop more frames, but not consistantly over time like the recorded file. Hopefully this post is descriptive enough to help. Title: Re: Recorded video is jumpy... Post by: Rara on December 11, 2006, 08:43:53 PM Update: I have recorded a single file of approx. 2 hours as above; it seems that files longer than a few minutes drop significantly more frames, and at seemingly random times. A/V does not lose sync during these dropped frames.

I have reported the issue to the bugzilla,if any other questions, welcome to report to bugzilla. http://bugzilla.neurosaudio.com/show_bug.cgi?id=609 |
