NOTE: This Firmware version is only for very early versions of the recorder that were mostly sold on Woot! in early 2005. If your MPEG - 4 RECORDER already has timer recording, You already have this Firmware and DO NOT NEED TO UPDATE Firmware. Your main screen should look like picture#2 below.

1.DOWNLOAD AND UNZIP THE FILE TO YOUR PC
You will see 3 files: bootload.hex, main.hex and upgrade.log

2. UPGRADE THE BOOTLOADER:
a) Copy bootload.hex to freshly formated* CF or SD card.*Important
b) Power on the recorder.
c)If the main page has multicolored icons and palm trees in the photo viewer icon (as below) please check your recording settings to see if you already have timer recording. Click enter on the Record menu and then press menu. If you do, this firmware upgrade is not necessary as you already have it. If you do not: press Record, Left Arrow, Enter on the remote.

d) If the main page is mostly shades of dark blue(as below): press Record, Up Arrow, Enter on the remote.

e) A message will pop up asking if to upgrade the boot loader. Choose Yes
f) The recorder will power off after the upgrade completes.

3. UPGRADE THE MAIN.HEX:
a) Copy main.hex and UPGRADE.LOG to CF or SD card.
b) Place CF or SD card in Recorder and plug output cables to TV.
c) Power on the unit if it is off.
d) The unit will start the upgrading automatically. A message "Upgrade..." will show on the screen. If "..."doesn't appear after 30 seconds, copy the UPGRADE.LOG file to the CF or SD card again and power cycle the unit.
e) When the upgrade is done, the main page will show up with the multicolored icons and timer recording will be available in the recording settings.
