Try Before You Buy

What is this? Below, we have samples of all the types of video that the Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder 2+ can produce. They are exactly what you get when using the recorder, and were taken directly from a Recorder 2. What you see is what you get.

Why should I download? Try before you buy- the R2 works with and was designed for the PSP and iPod. Download the files and check the quality and file sizes for yourself. It will also work with virtually all modern smartphones, PDAs and PMPs on the market. Most devices' specifications indicate the videos should play, but of course we can't buy and test every unit in existence. We provide this table so you can see for yourself that the video works, and judge the quality for yourself.

Where can I learn more? We have a more extensive wiki page about putting video on smartphones, iPods and PSPs. You can read more here. We also have step-by-step tutorials on how to put your video on your PSP™, iPod™, and smartphone.

Details and use:

iPod: Videos with the iPod icon will play on an iPod. The videos are provided so you can see the actual video quality of the R2 as it will appear on your iPod. The best video to try with your iPod is the QVGA-Superfine sample. To put the video on your iPod, download the video to your hard disk, save it to a convenient folder, add it to your library in iTunes and sync your iPod over the USB connection.

PSP: Videos with a PSP icon will work on the PSP. The best video to try with your PSP is the QVGA-Normal sample. You can also try fine or superfine. If you are using firmware earlier than v. 2.8, you need to download the file, and add it to the MP_ROOT\100MNV01\ folder on a memory card that has been formatted with the PSP. The Recorder 2 does this automatically. With firmware later than 2.8, you can download the file and put it into the "VIDEO" folder on the memory stick.

Smartphone/PDA: Most any recent smartphone or pocket PC should play these files, and you are most likely to meet success with a 3GP file, so try the QVGA-3GP-Superfine file first. Although most native media players should work, we recommend downloading and installing the excellent and free TCPMP, which should allow for smoother playback and better quality. If you are unable to see the file on your smartphone's memory card, the native player can't play it, or you are unhappy with the performance of the playback,TCPMP will probably solve these problems. Instructions for installing TCPMP on windows-based devices can be found here and for Palm devices, here. TCPMP alone will play 3GP files, and the MP4 files, if your device has AAC support.

Mobile: Mobile phones normally have a lower-resolution portrait-style screen. Try one of the files with the mobile phone icon. You should start with the QCIF-3GP-Superfine file, and use the lower-bitrate versions if this file won't play. To get the video on your phone, either copy it to an external memory card (mini-SD, etc.) or transfer it using the manufacturer's syncing software.

Here are some examples of devices that should work with the Recorder 2.

Mobile: Motorola V3i, V3m, L7, A780 Sony K790a, K750i, W900i Nokia 6280, N70, N90

Smartphone: Motorla Q, Cingular 2125, 8125, Palm Treo 700w, 700p, 650, T-Mobile MDA

PDA: Dell Axim X51v, Axim, X30, X50, HP iPaq rx1955 , hx2410, hx2700

These video samples are provided so you can put video onto your PSP, iPod or Smartphone and try the R2 before you buy. Check whether they're compatible, inspect the video and audio quality, and measure the file size against your memory cards. These files were not converted or modified in any way after being recorded with the R2- what you see is what you get. The best way to determine the video capability for your device is to start with the highest quality (superfine) at the highest resolution that your device might support. If that doesn't work, use a lower quality (Fine, and so on) until the video plays.
