Does anybody have any info on the status of a potential new firmware release? Over the last few months, I've pieced together that 3rd party firmware is on hold because DI is attempting to merge their own firmware with 3rd party releases, or something like that. Also, something about .FLAC support around there somewhere. I don't know the specifics, but the end result has been no major firmware updates for the last few months.

Somebody, anybody?

I actually bought my NeurosI 30gb during the woot deal. I since upgraded to the NeurosII brain and was going to do the 80gb upgrade myself. The purpose for buying it was my Karma had died and I had a Carbon (have about three I toy with now)for athletic endeavors. I wanted the workhorse to be my portable music system that would store most of my music collection in flac. And I kept hearing flac was coming so I made the plunge. Now that I've ripped about 40gb's in flac the only place I can listen to it is at home. For a device that prides itself on audio quality and such, I can't believe flac is still not an option (and please don't try and sell WAV anymore). My Neuros has been collecting dust for awhile and just might continue to do so until flac arrives as my dell dj (got it cheap) is proving servicable (just servicable)with great battery life. The 60gb iaudio x5 keeps looking more and more appealing. Actually with the new Sigmatel 3600 chip out and about, it won't be long till someone makes a better and more reliable Karma with more features, smaller form factor and the same sound quality. You guys will definitely have your hands full because outside of the people that want to record, your niche will shrink even more.

I am wondering when the newest Garbage branch firmware will come out. Anyone know?

well it depends on the luck of the draw. I hate my player (although I really want to love it) constant hangs, bugs and stuff. Now it's just carked it and I can't be bothered sending it back which cost tonnes cos I'm in Australia. So yeah I'm holding onto my money for Neuros 3 and if I can't wait that long probably get an Iriver or something.

uhm i am satisfied with my neuros. totally satisfied. there could be some minor enhancement here and there, but "constant problems, and im so frustrated with the high lack of firmware updates. This player has become a huge bore and let down" .. what the hell are you talking about? does your audio player only work if it gets weekly firmware updates? :=)

NDBM is unrelated to NA. They produce NSM, which is totally inferior to Sorune anyway. Perhaps they should help Sorune produce a more user-friendly interface, and scrap NSM...

And yes, it seems as if ALL attention has gone into the new products. It's been way too long since the last firmware release. We still have issues, NA...

Seems like ALL the focus is into the new product line.

The open.source firmware hasn't moved since it's 2.26.xx release and NDBM hasn't been updated since last November!

You guys are right. We need to move that from beta into final. I'll talk to the web guy. There won't be any new Neuros Digital Audio Computer coming out in the next month or so, as Joe said, we really need to switch gears and get a team setup. And yes, a lot of focus is going into the new product line.

What is a high lack of anything? That doesn't even make sense. Anyway, yeah, I don't know what is up with the firmware thing. Awhile back Joe talked about needing to wait for the firmware team to be set up in China or something. Now most of their resources are developing some new player. They just aren't big enough to handle the load, I guess. I'm surprised that the current firmware is still in beta after all this time. It doesn't really take any resources to change a webpage. An official response on this issue would be great.

7 months since the last official release; almost 5 months since the last Beta. The last Garbage branch release was about 7 months ago. The last 'status snapshot' of the firmware development on OdNA was 3 months ago.

I suspect that the TI wranglings have something do to with it, but that should only stop the open source software, not the official. Disappointing, to say the least.

The Ipod works - it does not need firmware updates.

The ipod has "much more functions"? It has more non-audio related functions, but I didn't buy the Neuros for calendar functions or games. I bought it for listening to music, either by file or from the radio. It even has a mic built-in.

I wouldn't try to compare the liveliness of the communities, though. The iPod has a much bigger share of the portable audio market. If only your criticism were somehow constructive...

Ipod's last firmware update was atleast a month ago, not several months. An Ipod has much more functions then the neuros and it is smaller. Ipod has a much more livelier community.

I think a lot of energy is being focused on the PVP 442 right now. There recently was an IRC meeting about the current firmware, but I haven't been able to find a log of it.
