I just got the recorder 1 from Christmas. I see there is a recorder 2 out there. I am happy to keep the 1 and just get an adaptor for Memory Stick. I am going to primarily use this with a Pocket PC, but I am getting a PSP in a month and I will certainly want to use that as well. Can someone confirm that the Recorder 1's video will work on the PSP? or do I need to return this unit and get a Recorder 2 and a converter to SD card?

To late Recorder 2 is on the way already...

I will have to go the other way with trying to get the video to work on our PDAs.

I found a program called 3GP that has some preformatted specs to convert the MP4 files that the Neuros MPEG-4(I) creates to PSP friendly MP4 files (even with a thumbnail!)

Engadget has an article on how to do this:

I would love to do this more, however my sorry little computer took over 12 hours to convert about an hour of video. Time for an upgrade!

Have fun!

Sam-

Correct, the Recorder 1 records videos in the ASF format and audio with the G.726 codec (both supported by TCPMP). If you want to play videos recorded with the Recorder 1 on a PSP, you will need a conversion software. The Recorder 2 records video in the MPEG4 format and audio format is AAC. Videos recorded with the Recorder 2 will play directly on the PSP and the iPod (you just have to add them to your library in Itune). As for using the recorder 2 to get videos on your Pocket PC, TCPMP no longer supports the AAC format (since last month), whicj means you would have to get a multimedia player for your Pocket PC (we are looking into new free softwares), but there are a few softwares you can buy which will support MPEG4 and AAC. We are about to test a software today. More on this later.

Here is the response from Customer Support....

Hello,
The recorder 1 will not work with the PSP.

I replied...

Does the Recorder 2 work with Pocket PCs? I have a Compaq iPaq and Dell Axim and want to use the SD slot for Video when at the gym. I also would like to do PSP video for the PSP I am getting for my son this month.

and got this response...

Hello,

The recorder 2 does not support SD cards. Does your handheld device support CF cards? The recorder 2 is designed to work with the PSP.

I replied again ...

understand that my original question was is the video file the same codec. I can buy an adaptor that will allow me to record to from CF to memory stick if I am using the Recorder 1, I am not sure if the video codec is the same or not. The other option is return my Recorder 1 and get a Recorder 2 and buy a CF to SD adaptor.

So the question is provided I can get the video from the Recorder 1 to a Memory Stick will it play on the PSP? Otherwise I will have to return my Recorder 1.

and got this response...

Hello Sam,

The recorder 1 cannot be used with the PSP and we cannot recommend a SD to CF card adapter that we have not tested. You would have to send us that adapter so we may properly test it. The PSP recorder does not have a USB port, you would need the PSP or a card reader to transfer files to a PC.

Best Regards,

So it sounds like the Codec used in the R1 is very different from R2. I guess I will need to do a return and reorder.
