Posted - 11/18/2005 : 07:03:14 AM Hi All, Having had my Neuros 1 with 20gig backpack here in the UK for the last couple of years I have been following the firmware updates as they were released and have been pleased with the features that have been added. My biggest concern is the sudden drop in battery life that occurred with one of the updates,I was getting about 6hrs. but this dropped to about 2.5 after the update, but trusting in the development of the product I thought it would be fixed in subsequent releases, but this has not happened. My battery life with N-Cast is around 2 to 2.5 hrs. if I leave the unit to play through tracks sequentially and don't try 'adding to que' etc, I put this down to ageing batteries and kept a charger to hand. Yesterday I thought this can't be right and pulled an old firmware from a web site, (Tobias I think), I put the charger in just long enough to 'update' the firmware and then got another 2.5 to 3hrs. of playback without charging the battery, this means that my batteries are good and the battery life issue is down to some threshold setting in the firmware. I appreciate that extra firmware functionality will affect the amount of power used but to lose around half of the playback time seems a little extreme. I know that DI has basically dropped development on the N1 & 2 but a last push to leave us with a feature rich product with a reasonable battery life would be a fair solution to all of us who have basically been the test bed, and to some extent the funding, for the future devices. For me the biggest missing feature is not being able to re-build the database without an external pc, maybe an app that can be run from the file browser can be written, but unfortunately I don't have any of the required skills.
Anyway sorry about waking the forum up again
Shaun
