Hey guys. To any and all who're interested, I'm holding a listening test for mp3 and vorbis. There will be two parts: a symphony part and a typical rock part. The symphony test is going on now. It consists of 4, 50 second-long samples for you to rate. NOTE: the test was going to be done by a program included in the test, but it was found that the program does not accurately reproduce the sounds of each file. Soo...follow the instructions below instead. You'll need ultimatezip from www.ultimatezip.com to untar the file.

1. Decode the flac files with the flac decoder from flac.sourceforge.net/download.html
2. Load the files in your favorite media player.
3. Create a text file to record your results.
4. Listen to each sample. Rate the file on a scale from 0.0 to 5.0 and record your results as follows:
Example:
1234.wav
Rating - 4.2
Comments - Some distortion on cymbals and snare
2314.wav
Rating - 1.2
Comments - UNBEARABLE!
5. Send the text file to me at: rocketman768@yahoo.com with the subject "Rock Listening Test"
6. Thanks for participating!

I'll make a nice presentation out of my findings and have a couple of statisticians/friends go over the results with me. Until then, have fun. |
