My PC recently had a fatal crash. Fortunately, I have a reasonably current backup of all my mp3 files and a fairly recent backup of my Neuros database. So far so good.
Since the backups are only fairly recent, I know of a hundred or so duplicate or nearly duplicate files that have been carefully removed from the Neuros, but not from the backup copies of the mp3's or the data base.
My question. To avoid looking through 2,500 files again, can I sync the neuros to the PC with a blank NSM database so that all of the Neuros files are copied back to the PC with no changes to the Neuros.
I know I could copy the files from the Neuros directly to the PC, but I think that would also copy hundreds of file folders as well.
Any suggestions?

You have two options here:
1. Copy the files to your PC (to avoid the subdirectories you'd have to do each one individually so that won't be fun), add them back to an empty NSM, schedule everything to go to Neuros and sync. NSM won't copy the files as they are already there.
2. Start with an empty NSM, turn on the "Search for Orphan Tracks" feature (Tools-Options-Synch) and then synch. This will find all of the music on your Neuros and give you a dialog. Select all of the songs (right click to select all) and press the "Add to PC and NSM" button. Select the folder where you want to copy the files too (yes, just one folder for this feature) and hit OK. This will copy the files from your Neuros to your PC, add the songs to NSM and mark them as on the device. The only downside to this feature is that it will take longer than option #1. Especially if you have 2500 songs on your Neuros!
Good luck!

I've found that it's easier to just use windows explorer's search feature to search for *.mp3 on the Neuros (it only takes a few seconds) and then drag all the results wherever you want them on your PC. |

Thanks, I used deez' recommendation and it worked fine. Everything's back to normal.
Here's a quirk I found. After copying my tracks back to the PC, I found that many tags had been changed and I had to reset several hundred tags before MusicMatch read the files properly.
I guess this is what people were talking about on other threads. That the Neuros does modify some tagging information.
Thanks for the help, both of you.

Just so you know, NSM no longer modifies tags as of v1.28. We were trying to be helpful but it turned out to do more harm than help so that has been scrapped completely. Now the only way NSM will update tags is if you edit a track's properties.

Since I use many computers, a reverse Sync seems like a must.
An opion that will wipe out the computer's database in favor of the Neuros unit's database. Instead of the other way around.
Problem is - I have never gotten the backup and restore to work. And when you sync with another computer (finding orphans) it wipes out your Song Lists on the unit. Arg!
