I tried the HiSi feature, and recorded a 30sec clip of "Live - They Stood Up For Love" (i deliberately took a well-know american band) but when i synced with NSM, the ID came back as "Faith Evans - You Gets No Love [Radio Mix]" and a best guess status.
Is there a way of telling the HiSi to do another search when the first one fails? Or might we even be able to tell it the correct name of the song if we know it?
And what other status is there, besides best guess?
I would've thought that Live was pretty simple to find in the playlists of american radio stations, is it?

I haven't heard that on the radio for a while...

Here is a link for what just played on a local radio station http://www.947zone.com/justplayed.asp (notice the logo)

HiSi will almost always pull up the same result, no matter how many times you search. (In fact, in theory, it should produce the same result every time, but I've seen it change... database update? Who knows.)

Now, I've actually never heard of the band Live, nor the song "They Stood Up For Love". And HiSi makes the claim to indentify more "popular" music. So one could reason that perhaps this wasn't in eMusic's database (or whoever it is) just yet.

However, a guess at the song title might be a good feature addition. The option to tell it the correct name, however, has been discussed and widely agreed to be a bad idea. Mis-labling, spelling, capitalization, database size and speed, and the fact that you need the entire song to "fingerprint" it.

So you're telling me all this thing is good for is to look for songs everyone already knows and no one would be dumb enough not to know???
Live is an american million record selling band, the song is out for at least 2 years now.
I'm not into pop, so i DON'T want to use HiSi to check for Britney, boysbands, even more britneys, nor rappers.
I mean, the feature would be pretty useless then, since everyone already knows those songs from intro to outro!

Jeff, just checked the site and it currently lists Linkin Park, Audioslave, Mudvaine, ...
Then how come they can't come up with the right answer???

HiSi never claimed to have every band or song in existance. Sorry it isn't working out for you.

Edit: clarification

It depends on the song by those artist and quality of the file. An artist may only have 2 well known songs out of the whole album.

Remember that static will have an impact, and if you could ever re-capture the song, that would be better than trying to re-resolve it. When I have a song, I try to do as many HiSi samples as I can, ususally 2 or 3, during the song.

But dominique, in spirit, I agree. There is nothing I listen to that is contained in the database. But I know we can send a song to relatable and tell them to add it.

But .... Live is a big, recent band, I would think they would be listed, it could have been a glitch in the HiSi sample.

Does Relatable use their own database of TRM IDs or do they use MusicBrainz?

I know it's not Music Brainz because I checked them out later as an alternative.

Finally, i was just beginning to think they only played in belgium and their worldwide popularity was just one big charade put up but MTV europe and TMF...

OK, so we'll settle on the glitch solution, and i'll try some more songs. But asking Relatable to at least add Live's hits might be nice

Might be a good thing to do some significant tests (couple of hundred songs??) and find out how relieable the system is...
Anyone interested in performing a few of those tests? It would be pretty meaningless if i were to do them all myself, since that wouldn't exactly be without personal influence eh...

Just to add my 2 cents regarding HiSi, I've considered it a cute feature, but one that I didn't expect to ever use. One day however, I decided to try it out for fun. I was listening to the local classic rock station and recorded a clip from a song that I had never heard before. After the song was over the dj said that it was "Sunshine of Your Love" by Cream. When I synched my Neuros later that day, sure enough, HiSi identified it correctly! Although I'll probably still have little need for the feature, let it be known that it will indeed work for more songs than just the most popular ones!

It would be nice to have a 'ADD TO HiSi DB'-wishlist, where every Gamma user could add f.e. their 20 fovorite tunes.

I guess I'll revive this thread now... :)
How about getting a Speach to Text integrated into NSM.
A good selling point IMHO. since people use Neuros to record lectures and presentations (and meetings) it'd be a useful feature.

Now the problem may be in finding a FREE Speach to Text application,
but anyway, me thinks it's useful.

And maybe this should go into NSM, but i figure since it's recording and 'recognizing' it may fit the thread.
