Pick one:

1. Metallica
2. Guns 'N Roses
3. Korn
4. Black Sabbath and/or Ozzy
5. System of a Down
6. Iron Maiden

if you can think of a different metal band that you like, say that one instead

Depending on who you ask they may or may not be considered metal, but in my opinion they're the best damned band ever, and that's Tool. :) But if we have to go strictly metal, I'd say Opeth.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhh

The bands in your list are generally low quality bands. Iron Maiden was OK until after they released /Caught Somewhere in Time/, an album consisting entirely of filler...then they released one good album (/Seventh Son of a Seventh Son/ which, oddly enough, just started playing on random play) and then Bruce Dickinson left and was replaced by Blaze...then you have the 90s with really really bad albums followed by a reunion and a pair of albums which were a lot stronger than the 90s releases but even more repetetive than the old Maiden releases (e.g. in "Brave New World" the line "In a Brave New World" is repeated what seems like 300000 times in a row). Bruce Dickinson's solo work during the 90s is a lot better.

KoRn just sucks.

Gun N' Roses is just pop hair metal.

Metallica was good back in the 80s. Then they turned around and pissed all over their fans and started to suck hard.

System of a Down...the singer certainly is interesting. Their first album is one which I wouldn't deny owning. Their subsequent work, however, was way too produced and sucks. I didn't realize that SOAD was SOAD when I heard some of their later stuff.

Black Sabbath...they helped thrust metal into the mainstream but they are old and washed up now.

I'd have to go with Iron Maiden as the best metal band from your list and Symphony X as the best metal band overall (I would vote for Dream Theater but they aren't quite metal). Devin Townsend (everything he has done; DTB, SYL, Ocean Machine...) comes in a close second.

aaah!!

how can you saw korn sucks? they're amazing, they were great at ozzfest last year and the new album kicks ass. totally agree with the metallica thing, they're new stuff sucks, especially St. Anger, still, they're metallica so i had to buy tickets for the tour this year. System of a down, they're first album was their best, Toxicity was a pretty good album, but "Steal this album!" did really suck. Black Sabbath can never be washed up, they will always be amazing.........i forgot to add slipknot to the list, cant wait until the next album, hopefully its better than their last one, Iowa.

I can think of some "Nazareth - Hair Of The Dog" , my favorite album of theirs , and some "Judas Priest - Turbo" etc..., I think out of the list you have Ozzy would be my favorite pick.

I would have to say Clutch. An unbelievable band of musicians who give you tight, explosive, textured rock, with a whole lot of swagger and groove. That's right my friends, the mighty C! will rock your socks off. If you want to give them a listen, my favorites are their self titled album and "The Elephant Riders". But honestly, you can't go wrong with anything from these guys.

I hate emo like that. Whiny suburbian kids whining about stupid stuff in a very non-poetic way. See http://emoxclinton.com for a funny emo-bashing comic. The main character is a parody of me (I am so metal it hurts and emoXclinton is straightedge and über-emo).

I can safely say that I have never heard Clutch called "Emo". Are you sure you have the right band Unknown? They are not exactly In Flames or Celtic Frost, but they are not Emo.

I am far from an authority on the genre. I listen to just about anything, but nothing intently enough to be overly critical. I can say that Sepultura, Beneath The Remains is one of my all time favorite albums. Rates right up there with Floyd's Meddle, interestingly. I personally would classify most of what has been discussed so far as hard rock and for me that's a toss-up between Faith No More and Tool.

Oh wait, I was confused.

Switchfoot is emo (do not ask me how I confused the two), Clutch is simply "Chill" which isn't much better. Either way it is NOT metal.

It's the Tool fans who suck ;)

Beneath the Remains is an awesome album, it sucks that they (and Max Cavalera's Soulfly) suck so much now. Roorback makes me want to die. It's better than Nation though...(well, Nation does have a good song or two...).

I think it all depends on the era. For the 80's I would have to go with Van Halen.
