Has anyone had any sync problems with a HP computer? It seems that my USB connection is timing out shortly after I start a sync. Maybe 30-40 min. into it. The sync fails and all data is lost. I've been talking to Neuros and HP support and haven't been able to determine the cause yet. Support mentioned, and stressed that it was rare, a few HP computers have had issues. (Don't worry HP users, I said rare and it sounded like most everything was fixed.) My comp. is 3 months old, an a530n, I think. Sync worked fine until I cleared the hard drive, installed 1.50 and 2.21 and tried to start over fresh. Has anyone dealt with anything strange with a HP? |

Did you try the latest chipset drivers directly from nvidia? Not the ones from HP, they are usually very old! Do you have another USB-drive which works? If you copy via the Explorer/Konqueror whatever filemanager, is it the same? What Neuros-model and what USB type (1.1 or 2.0) did you use?

| I have no idea what nvidia is, so probably not. I've tried other USB ports, same thing. The printer and camera use USB with no problem. I've tried to sync with nothing else plugged in and in different ports. Problem happens with NSM and NDBM. It's a 20GB Neuros 1 with USB 1. The computer is USB2, but I didn't get the upgrade in time. So, what about this nvidia thing? |

nVidia is a manufacturor of computer accesoire-chips, such as graphic-card-processors and for a few years now, chipsets for the AMD-processor familys. It's well known for a quite good speed with it's chipsets. For this chipset you usually are in need for a driver for Windows to work. If this is an old one from HP, and they didn't upgrade the package for a long time, it's likely, especially with pretty new chipsets, that they miss bugfixes and enhancements in the driver written by nVidia. So that's the place where to go!
Hope that solves your problem!

That's sad. If I were near you I would give you a quick visit, but unfortunately I live in Europe!
Could you try to give a really detailled version of what happens exactly?
Does it happen when you copy the files via your filemanager, not via a synch-application?
Second thing: Is there a possibility for you to get a second Neuros from a friend for testing purposes, or at least another usb-plug HD?
I would like to see you being able to use your Neuros as it's supposed to be used, so I won't stop until I'm out of the slightest hope. But I didn't really start, yet!

| Well thanks for the support! I tried the Neuros on a friends computer last night. It would not complete the sync on that one either. I'm thinking it's the device itself. I'm waiting to hear back from Kathryn/Support. I do have another thread in the Support Forum. I think its title is "Skips at Song Start". That's where I've been talking about the Sync problem. |

Yep, that's fine. I thought your computer was right. If I guess, I would say the HD has a problem, either hardware or filesystem (I think it's bad sectors). Did you ever try to fromat the harddrive completely? This might help!

I've done it a few times. Since I can't complete a sync on 2 different computers, with 2 different data bases, I'm thinking it's a problem with the hard drive itself. It seems to hit a certain point and then freezes. |

O.K., I don't want to bug you, but how did you format it? Did you use the firmware-function with preset 1 + 5 + play or did you format from Windows? If the first, you should try a "format DRIVELETTER: /u" under Windows and try synch again. Since this format reads AND writes AND rewrites on every point of the disc and if there is really an irreparable hardware-problem, it should freeze like the copy did. If it doesn't freeze, it's a good chance the next synch will work! The other formats are not checking this intense and are only working if there were no mistakes made with the disc, before.
Hope that helps!

| No way man, I really appreciate the help! I did 1/5/play. When I get home from work, I'll try the Windows format (if I can find it). Thanks! |

You have to open the commandline (Start/execute ... cmd) and type "format DRIVELETTER: /u" !
