I have been taking the Neuros to Los Angeles with me and tried using MyFi in this market and have not had good success. First the autoscan selects stations that are already occupied. Second, I have yet to have clear reception (I am typically having to use 104.9 for the best reception)(it works great when I am in the parking garage of the office). Third, that if I do get a decent reception it won't last long while I am in the car. For a while I found the reception would be better if I wrapped the headphones around the Neuros, but I have not tried that since getting the "MyFi fix".

Finding a clear station manually takes a while, but for the clear reception it is well worth it. Also, you should try changing MyFi quality to mono and placing the front Neuros logo near metal or your body. Reception is better and much easier while not in a car.

The LA market is rough; 104.9 is the best so far for me; 105.1 is a classical station out of LA and 104.7 is actually unoccupied. So there is fuzz if 105.1 (if that's still their call letters) is coming in strong. As far as my checking goes, 104.5 to 105.1 is the ONLY greater than one station gap in our area. Let me know if you find something better (email/IM is fine).

I just got my MyFi fixed unit back yesterday so today was the first try. Lying on the seat of the car, the reception was poor. I plugged in the power cord and it got much cleaner. I kept the power cord plugged into Neuros but not the car (I needed to use my GPS which plugs into the cigarette lighter) and the signal was still clean and strong. This is the solution for me. I am much pleased...

The autoscan frequency that my Neuros was using was pretty shakey, so I spent a few mins. today looking for an open station. Wow does that make a difference. I found one and manually set it MyFi to use that. I'm very impresed now with it. I could've put it anywhere in my car and it would've had great quality. (For the curious: it was 96.5 in Toledo, OH)

My suggestioned turned into a rant. In short, manual tuning pays off (for me).

I haven't had a pair of headphones (or earbuds) on me for about 3 weeks now, and it's only because I'm using MyFi everywhere. Mostly while driving. The more astute of you may know that I fashioned an antenna for my Neuros, which is excellent provided I'm not broadcasting on top of another strong frequency. My point, however, is that I only really use the manual tuning. Autoscan finds some okay frequencies, but it also tends to find "unused" frequencies right next to major signals (e.g. 92.5 KQRS has a huge signal, Autoscan picked 92.7.)

Man, nothing is better than having crystal clear reception in my car from my Neuros. Sounds like a pair of headphones.

I'm glad more people are manually trying to find clear frequencies for MyFi. If I was to think of a way to improve autoscan I would make it search not only for a clear frequency, but give higher priority to groups of clear or weak frequencies.

I too notice that autoscan currently has a tendency to select a station right next to a very large station.

I would have to agree. Right now in QA when we test MyFi quality, we manually choose the station.

The main problem is the poor sensitivity of the receiver in the Neuros. Unless you are in a fairly major metro area, you won't get good reception and it will pick frequencies on or near stations. I have now tested my unit in a more urban setting and the reception of more stations was acceptable, but at home where most radios still get a decent selection of stations, my neuros picks up very little. Fortunately I mostly use it for MyFi -- manually tuned.

My rule of thumb on finding your own Myfi station, The Lower the Better. Any product that acts like a plug-in myfi trans. will give you a choice of three stations all in the 87. to 88. So lower...

I have to continue to beat this to death. We need to have the entire band available for MyFi. In Populated areas such as NY, Chicago and LA the FM band is very crowded. As you can see from all of the posts, the people with the most MyFi trouble are in major cities. I saw the same issue when I was traveling in LA and continue to have it in NY/NJ.

I know in the NY/NJ area the high and low ends are less populated with radio stations, but Neuros does not go to the top or bottom.

Firmware 2.0 Wish: MyFi can use the entire FM band.

Gene

PS - The latest version of firmware with the manual gain increase works well. It's a few extra keystrokes but worth it. The gain helps mask some of the static.

Gene- we agree, and thank you for continuing to beat it to death for !us! Full Band coverage is high on our list; our hardware folks are working on this as we speak. We'll keep you posted, SK.

So, is this just a hardware issue (MyFi frequency range) or is it solvable with Firmware?

I would think that if it were a firmware issue, it'd be done by now...

Jedirock had stated in a different thread that is was both a hardware and a firmware issue.

Which sounds a bit forboding for existing users. Details on what the hardware issue is and what will be required to fix it would be -very- appreciated.

I really doubt this will help, there are more effective methods for this. Search the forums for "rf port".
