Changed tag to get more attention.
According to the schematic, the tip connector of the RF jack is hooked up to a pin on the DSP which is labeled EXTERNAL and is adjacent to a pin labeled INTERNAL which goes to the internal antenna for MyFi. SO it appears DI has done something small to discourage random resoldering within the Neuros.
Connecting a scope across the sleeve-tip of the RF jack shows a signal which is directly related to the frequency the Neuros is transmitting at. It could be crosstalk, but it's pretty powerful (~20 mVp-p). This leads me to believe that an antenna connected to that jack will have some definite benefit to your broadcasting range.
I've played around with this a bit, but haven't had any luck. RF electronics, especially antenna design, can be an extremely arcane field. If I can cajole an antenna design to work, I will post about it here. I have already tried a ~1/4 wavelength whip of copper, but it doesn't seem to be doing a fabulous job. More to follow!

You may be able to find a small 6' telescoping antenna at your local radio shack. Then, it would be a simple process of plugging it in and seeing what it does to your range. I never really thought that they might've changed it for the N2.

| This is what I've noticed. If you play a track with myfi then insert the head phones and then restart the track the tramsmit range and quality is great. This only lasts ~ 30 sec. then it goes to std. phone mode. If this could be disabled it would be nice. The FCC might get pissed though. |

I only have the Neuros 1, but I've been using an external antenna system that works quite well. I keep my Neuros in the Case Logic cover that was available as an accessory when I bought it- the case plays a role in the antenna set-up. I'm sure you've heard about the "thumb-over-insignia" trick that boosts the MyFi clarity and range. The only problem is having to constantly hold the Neuros which can get uncomfortable and inconvenient very quickly. I have found that by placing the jack of a pair of headphones or a hands-free cell phone earpiece over the Neuros insignia just under the play button I can achieve a drastic increase in signal clarity and broadcasting range, at least as good as if not better than the improvements achieved with my thumb. Again, however, keeping the jack in place presents somewhat of a problem. That's where the Case Logic case comes into play. The headphone jack tucks nicely between the case and the Neuros right below the play button, effectively holding the jack in place over the Neuros insignia. I had my Neuros playing in my kitchen and was recieving a reasonably clear signal in my car at least 75 feet away, and through several walls! Also, I've been able to have friends access my broadcast when they've been following my vehicle, although we didn't do any distance testing.
