A few days ago I had an idea that I think could replace the Sync Manager. I know that there is supposed to be a new program in the works, but what about GUI integration?

Basically, what you do is go into your file browser and hightlight a bunch of music that you want to add to your Neuros. You then could right-click and select "Add to Neuros", or something like that. This would be similar to the way dbPowerAMP adds the "Convert To..." option to the context menu when you install it. The little program will run (maybe just a simple dialog box to tell you what's going on) and see if your Neuros is attached. If so, it'll copy the files over and append their information to the database (rather than rebuilding the whole thing).

I like this because it allows users to just find music on their computer and add it to the Neuros (rather than updating a snyc manager's listing) and the player could still keep the music database within. Also, although I don't know a whole lot about Linux, I think that it'd be easier to implement than a whole other program. Of course, the little program that runs to add your files to the Neuros database would have to be cross-platform.

Comments? Do you think it could work? Would anyone like a feature like this?

I think the x-platform is really hard to implement, since it would need to make jack in into many different systems. AFAIK even the different windowmanagers under Linux are going to be dealed with, separated, not mentioning Aqua for the OS X users and Windows, BeOS and Solaris. Because we speak of x-platform, we don't want to forget them, won't we?
So I think, technically it's a hard thing to do, and it wouldn't be worth the time coding something like that for sparing out the mouseklick to open Sorune and browsing to the folder, there!
I get your idea, though, but I wouldn't want it before everything else which is still needed is there!

ok, i talked to darren (the creator of sorune) about this last night and we did agree that it would be too hard to implement this into the shell of multiple operating systems. but we did come up with an alternative that would still make it easier for one to rebuild the database. he plans on adding a system tray icon that you can click to rebuild the neuros database. we hope this would suit most peoples need instead of trying to implement it into the shell of multiple operating systems.

Kind of "as I said"
I like the idea of the systray icon. That's a good idea!
You will need an icon for that?
I will think about a special one, but for know I think the real sorune-one is the best!
I will post another bug I found yesterday at sorune.com!

Greets,

Hmmm...I didn't realize it'd be so hard to implement. I do like the system tray icon, though.

for windows, it wouldnt be too hard to implement, but for linux there are so many file browsers that it would pretty much be imposible to implement it for linux.
