I have heard some MP3 Players support this.

But basically, no manager required. You just drag and drop songs in a file structure located on the filesystem of your player. The player extracts file information such as title, album, and so on.

I feel tied down to the dang manager and I hate it since I use many computers.

you can sort-of do that with the neuros. If you have the new beta firmware, the file browser looks through what is physically on the disk, no data base required. If you don't use that, you can put stuff on without the manager, but you have to use the manager to rebuild the database before you can play them. Keep a copy of one of the managers on the neuros so you'll always have it with you no matter what computer your using.

I keep the latest copy of sorune on the player itself and run it from there as well, that way anywhere I am I can add stuff to it. You can even get a "portable" version of thunderbird http://johnhaller.com/jh/mozilla/portable_thunderbird/ designed to run from usb keys etc plonk that on there and take your mail every where with you.

Neuros rocks!

Just another example of software that is fully functional from a portable drive and doesn't require installation (registry and C: drive) to run on whatever computer you are using.

Nothing directly, just that not only can you keep music & files on the neuros but using the link above you can have a portable version of Thunderbird mail app that requires no install an keeps the mails on the neuros as well. so you can take them any where, plug the neuros into your mates pc or an internet cafe pc, run the app from the neuros and download all your mail to it. I find it pretty usfull any way..

aha! so this works

are the files "woid sync" "system volume info" "bkpk sn" "sn.txt" and "version.txt" necessary if using only the filebrowser mode? I think I like that better...

I liked the file browser when I first saw it, but except for emergencies, it's too slow to be practical.

Looks great! Now if we can program directories to the programmable buttons and add and remove songs to your playlists (as well as create a playlist via the firmware)
