Is there anyway to minimise the recording noise?

attach an external microphone or record in the lowest bitrate mop3 you can. The first option is the best, but then you'll need a pre amp. It'll work fine withough it but may not be loud enough, though you may be able to find an acceptable level by adjusting the gain level.

For a cheap way to test if it'll work for you, plug the headphones into the line in and record. You can even put the two sides in different places for stereo recording

Using a low bitrate mp3 will still yeild some noise whenever the hard disk is accessed, but there will be less accessing the lower the bitrate. I'm not sure, but I think recording with the internal mic to a flash backpack will elimanate the noise as well.
