I know that WMV v9 is supported, but will all the tons of short, quick video clips that I get emailed in WMV (pre9) format be usable on the 442? Is this something that might be supported in the future?

and alas, my Neuros doesn't like them. I don't have time to rerip them now... is there a patch or something available/planned? I know that being able to play these types of vids is something a lot of folks want but don't have the expertise to convert. And conversion is time-consuming.

There is a conversion software that came with the 442 (Ulead). You will find it on the CD included in the package. It will convert your video files to DivX files.

We'll definately be increasing the compatibility, that's a top priority. The big goal is that you just drop a file on the device and it plays, you don't have to worry about formats, etc. How much of that happens with the current hardware v. the new hardware is yet to be determined.
I had to check with engineering as to what we have licensed with regard to WMV. We have V9 Simple profile and Main profile. I believe this will have some backward compatibility as well. I will look further into this.
