Not sure whether it is the right place but I was missing a forum entry in which users could express feature/enhancement requests.
Now that I recorded some of my old tapes onto the 442 I can see myself taking it to friends houses and playing off the 442 onto a bigTV or projector. I am sure down the road I will lose/forget the cables that go from composite mini jack to the standard 3-way RCA connectors. So my question is: are there any chances of having the output be with the 3 connectors instead of the mini jack ? (input would be cool too) The reasoning behind this is that portability means also not having to carry all the cables with you at all times :)
I have the same issue with the USB cable. If I am not at home and wish to copy all my friend's mp3s the most readily available way would be ethernet or wifi. (altough a lot of people have a USB cable now) Having the 442 be able to offer a SMB share would be really practical (The developer board has ethernet. will it stay?)
How different can we expect the software to be in the final version? Is there a better-suited place to ask for software features? Otherwise I'll add them here :)
cheers

Good suggestions, I was thinking the same thing last week as I had to show pictures to friends but did not have the composite cables with me. The other way around it is that everybody gets behind Neuros and the 442 become the new hot item to have. We might have to wait for this to happen though .
We have a wishlist on our wiki for the 442 at: http://theneuros.com/index.php/Wishlist:442
You will also see that we have a link to our bugzilla on this page as well, just in case the url is http://bugzilla.neurostechnology.com/ You can report bugs and list enhancements. People can even vote on the bugs or enhancements they really would like to see us work on.

You mention an FM transmitter on the wish list--I would like an FM reciever, with the ability to record from the radio into mp3 files. My wife's mp3 player has that and it's a cool feature.

I think RCA jacks on the device is a very cool idea. My concern would be size, but maybe there's a clever way to do it. I think one of the intermediate things we can do is make sure that we use inexpensive standard components so that you can afford to have a couple of them.
This is not the best forum to discuss feature requests though. You will see there are some threads already devoted to feature requests in the feedback forum.

Actually, it seems that the AV cable that came with the MPEG4 Recorder, 3.5mm mini to RCA AV, are becoming a "standard" configuration. Anyone with a camcorder or even a digital camera dock (or, obviously, the MPEG4 Recorder) seems to have them; they are also easily obtained at minimal cost.
Unfortunately, the cables that came with the 442 are _sub_mini to RCA: these are not common, nor as easily obtained. And, based on preliminary reports, don't lend themselves to as good a connection.
It would seem to make sense that if the Neuros Recorder and the 442 are such complimentary products, it would be a useful and economical move to have share the same accessories.

Instead of headphone style (2.5 or 3.5mm) VIVO, what about doing a multi-pin bus with a snap on connector (a la the bottom of a cellular telephone).
I mean it seems a waste to limit the device to composite when 720x480 would look so much nicer with svideo or maybe even component.
The bus could also be put on the bottom and used for a cradle, so you could drop the unit in a cradle at home to charge/record/playback, maybe even get USB out of it, and then take it with you and use the snap on cables for "on the road" uses.
That would leave audo headphones and USB the only non-integrated connectors. Add charge though USB and you've got a winner IMHO.

The 442 is a portable device, right?
So why isn't a mobile power adapter (cigarette lighter plug) provided? Or at least available?
Just after being able to save bookmarks while watching a movie, that's my next highest priority request.

I agree that we need a seperate mobile power adapter for the 442. A small AC inverter that plugs into the lighter plug should work with the existing power adapter and cord for now. Might also be a universal Lighter plug DC adapter available that would work?

| My wish would be to enable the usb charging. I have a car cord and AC plug that provides power through USB. This way I only have to have the devices USB cord and either of these two adapters and I'm in business. |

I couldn't have said it better. It seems to me that Bookmarks/Resume Play with video files should have been a given. I'm not sure how a developer could decide to ship this without such a feature. I'm also not sure how they could develop a portable device like this without a cig lighter power adapter. My initial reaction was that we are in the Gamma stage and the full first public release will include that feature and the cig lighter adapter. At least I have to assume it will -- if not I suspect the 442 will be have a much tougher time making real inroads into existing devices market share. I hope these Neuros guys can get it right! I'm rooting for them. |

I've never bought a mobile phone that came with a cigerette lighter adapter. I can't imagine that there are other PMPs that include that as standard and I think it's unreasonable to expect one. I think it would make a nice accessory for people who'd like to buy one, however. |

Okay, then, how many portable DVD players come with a cigarette lighter plug? Both of mine did and what's a 442 but a miniaturized DVD player that uses a hard drive isntead of a DVD drive?
