hi,

i'm more interested in neuros 2's utility for field recording w/ a mic preamp than i am its playback. auditory.org and sonic studios had high praise for the old hd20 model, but i haven't seen any informative reviews of the neuros 2 along similar lines.

how's the recording quality?
is it quiet?
is it stable?
is it practical in use?
how long is the battery life when recording?
are there any gotchas?

any input would be most appreciated.

yours, niall.

Is it quiet? - If the mic is away from the unit yes, the HD is fairly noticable using the built in mic, but withstandable. I've used the line-in for recording, and it was an excellent record, yet i think the volume always confused me, but it's adjustable though.

Is it stable? - Like a rock. The only time I thought the unit froze while I was recording, was actually because I had put the button lock on -_-

Is it practical to use? - Well, as a spur of the moment recording tool, I found that the time to get into the recording mode took a little longer than desired, yet this is possibly because i was slightly unsure when it had actually started to record until it saw at least two seconds tic by on the timer. And I must say, the pause recording feature works beautifully. I thought I had finished an interview, so I pressed play, simply because I wanted to get out of there without having to mess with the controls. But then the guy started talking again, so I pressed play, and it started recording just where it left off. No pop or click or anything.

How long does the battery last while recording? - I believe some people ahve done extensive tests on this, but I can't remember . . . I'll edit this post if I find anything . . .

Are there any gotchas? - Hmm, depends on what you think is this so called "gotcha" you talk of . . . I suppose not being able to label a recording immediately is kinda upsetting, yet I'm not sure how you would . . . a virtual keyboard would be kinda messy to use . . . but the system it uses is very nice. *Source MM-DD-YY HH-MM-SS* It's pretty accurate as long as your clock and calendar on the unit are correct ^_^ Oh, well as far as my unit, which was one of the originals, the line-in plug was kinda difficult to plug in all the way. It kinda felt sorta spongy, but once it was in, it was golden. It was more than likely that it was a one time thing, or at least one in a couple thousand sort of thing ^_^

Hope this helps. Sorry I didn't see this topic sooner, maybe I could have helped that other guy . . . who posted roughly 3 1/2 months ago Heh, maybe he subscribed to this topic and will get a notice . . .
