I heard about the Neuros mpeg4 II machine while reading a review of the new iPod video. I am looking to maybe buy both, although I have never even seen an iPod in person. It seems to do the things I need (since I ran over my Sony Clie and am in the market for a new PDA for contacts, appointments, and e-books).
Anyway, on to my questions, AND NO LAUGHING...how do you get the recorded video (let's say a TV show) from the Neuros recorder 2 into the iPod? I'm thinking the video has to go from Neuros in to my Vaio PC and back out to iPod? If so, is this all done in real time?
Thanks for your help.
Regards, Michelle

The video is captured in real time using your recorder then you transfer the file to your computer via a card reader and then you take it from your computer to the Ipod. How fast is determined by file size and the speed of your computer. It’s a matter of seconds.

Keith is correct. Although, note that the Recorder 2 does not have a USB port, which means you will need a card reader with USB port if you do not have a CF or a Memory Stick Slot on your Vaio (most desktops and a few laptops come with them now, but not all). With the card reader, you will be able to transfer the file on the card (CF or memory stick) to your computer, then transfer it from your PC to your iPod. You can get some card readers with USB port for less than $10. The other option would be to use a Handheld (with a CF slot) or a digital camera (with CF or Memory Stick slots). In that instance you will be able to connect them to your PC (and spare $10).
Let us know if you have any more questions.

So I guess that this means that this device doesn't have a hard drive?
You expect iPod video users to transfer files to card and then to pc to get it to iPod? The iPod video is going to be big, I think you should add a model with usb port and/or hard drive. Not sure if theres away to stream file via usb as its being encoded. |

miles4n4, There are already other products with harddrive. This unit had appeal to people with smaller wallets.
Second, I wasn't sure you understood how the Recorder 2 works... it records to the card directly, there is no separate step for "transfer files to card" after recording. Video is saved to the card as it is recorded, in real-time.
Thus, assuming the iPod video can use the same compactflash reader accessory as the other ipods (ie moving digital photos), then the video can come straight off the compactflash card and into the ipod video thru said accessory. Totally eliminating USB port, and even needing a computer at all for transfer.
So the process is more like: Record, Move card to iPod, Copy to iPod |
