Dead is this forum and apparently any hopes for firmware upgrades.

I have a problem where when I browse searching by Album that it will freeze up and I have to press play and up to reset. It does this every time; and has been doing this for a long time. It works better on Artist or Song but still freezes up randomly (Album it happens every time and is pretty consistent where it freezes). Also I have done plenty of NAND formats and it makes no difference.

Is this a Firmware issue? I have tried it with two different versions of firmware (currently using Garbage), but it makes no difference. I was hoping that the latest and greatest Firmware would solve this, but the latest is about a year old. Anything up and coming from neuros?

I've not heard of any bug like that. I have a few general suggestions.

One, if your device is almost full, take some music off, give the device an extra 100-200 MB to breathe better. See if that helps.

If not, I would reformat your hard drive and re-sync (rebuild) your Neuros again. I think the database can get errors over long periods of time and become problematic.

Also, I had some uncompressed .wma files that would crash my device. Look for huge huge file sizes and get them down to something closer to 3-4 MB each.

My thoughts.

Hey Kathryn,

long time since I read a post from you.
What's going on out there in the far west over the ocean?
New firmware coming? N3 in sight? Anything?

says Matthias who's waiting for the N3, which will hopefully has much more battery-power for long uncompressed non-corded recording-sessions.

Greet's from the old world,

Matthias

Matthias, you're not the only one waiting for the N3. I'm trying to hold out from buying a new DAP before seeing the N3, but it's getting harder to do every day.

EDIT: This is for the OP, not Matthias.
Anyway, have you tried connecting the Neuros to your computer and running a scandisk program. If you have Windows XP, connect the Neuros and note the drive letter it has in My Computer. Then, go to Start > Run... and type in cmd and hit Enter. At the command prompt window, type in chkdsk G: /r, where G is the driver letter of your Neuros (be sure to put the colon after it). Also note that there is one space between the parts of the command. Let it run--it may take a while. The /r switch tells the program to attempt recovery of info in bad sectors.

Why should I do a chkdsk?
Everything is working fine. It's just not enough battery to record long shooting sessions without being plugged into the wall!

Speaking of dead, my unit died recently, after a good 11 months of use. Time to send it in, quickly, before the warranty expires..

Same here, the only thing that has been holding me back from getting a newer player is that I cant find anything relatively new that plays OGG. Heres to hoping for the N3's speedy release.

Sorry, I meant that part as a reply to Groovykid and his Neuros freezing problem.

Anywho, Llama, two I've been eyeing are the Cowon iAudio X5 and the Samsung YH-J70. Both play OGG, I believe. The problem is that the X5 does not have an ID3 tag database (file browser only) and the J70 is not out in the States yet.

Thanks for all your help. I deleted all of the files (except the music files) and rebuild the neuros database. That seemed to hit the spot. I think it is working fine now, but I have a USB 1 (for firmware update) problem; but I am not concerned about that as of yet because it seems like the firmware will not be updated within at least the next few years.

Thanks again for everyone's help!
