I had this posted in the feedback and discussion area but I've experienced so much crashing when trying to view these files I thought I should post it in the support area.

There are many films available in http://archive.org films section. These are many freeware / open source films that are available to the general public to download.

The mpeg4 (256Kbps?) format is a good mixture of quality / size and would be perfect to tote along but I have had loads of problems with crashes when i try to watch them.

Some sample movies that I've watched were "british intelligence", the "computer chronicles" episode with the amiga and atari st, and "the bigamist" (it is an interesting look at bigamy from 50 years ago).

Besides the synchronization of sound and video being off at times, what's more frustrating is that during a standard viewing I will need to use a paper clip to restart the player every 15-20 minutes on average, and fast forward at 16x to the spot that I was last watching.

Can someone check into this and let me know if there is something I can do to work around this? I have a feeling that downloading the mpeg2 might be a work-around but these files are on the order of 2gigabytes compared with the 200 megabytes on the mp4 version. I can get any information that is required. I'm using the newest firmware version, the one with 'shuffle' and the ability to pause the recording.

thanks,
Chris

If you take these mp4 files and convert them to DivX using Dr. Divx (and the right codecs) they don't seem to have the same crashing problems. Could this be related to the AAC audio stream that the .mp4 files use?

Back up all yuor data and reformat the 442. Try adding the same files and see if you still have the same issues. Sometimes a good format will do the trick.
