Does the recorder II need to be powered on to recorder a scheduled recording or can the device be off and it will automatically power on to make the scheduled recording.

I recorded the three part Battlestar Galactica episodes when Sci Fi had their little mini-marathon. I'm pretty sure I treated the Neuros just like a VCR and turned the power off before I left it. The thing I remember having to do was turn ON timer recording, and then there is another condition inside the "recorder" function that needs to be turned on as well for the machine to remember to record.
You should both make sure that those conditions are met first before trusting your machine to record. I don't remember what that condition is right now: I'm at work. I will take a look at my settings tonight and update this thread tomorrow if no one gets to it first.

I meant to post this from work today, but I got too busy.

From my above post you should know you need to turn "Timer Recording" on. After you have turned it on, you then need to enter "Timer Recording". When inside you will find yourself in "Timer Recorder Settings".
In here you need to obviously set the time you want to record, but you must also set the "Frequency" to "Once", "Daily", or "Weekly". Anything but "OFF".
Don't forget to "Save" your settings before leaving.
Once you are out of "Timer Recorder", turn your machine off just as you would a VCR.
This worked fabulously for me when I recorded the remake of "Jason And The Argonauts" a couple of weekends ago. I got all four hours by recording each one-hour section on it's own.

Hope this helps.

On the Recorder 1, I think Timed Recording also only works if you leave the Video Recorder as the active "program." I'm not sure if this also applies to the "2." I don't think the Recorder 1 really even has an on/off setting.

the online version of the Recorder 2 manual says the recorder has to be powered on for the timer to work--it won't turn on automatically

Misfit and Neo979 are correct. I tried my above process on Friday night and missed recording BG again.
Last night I ran a simple test using Neo979's post as a guide and was successful.
To sum up, if you want to record a show use my guide but ignore the part about turning the unit off. Leave the unit in the recording preview screen and you should be just fine.
I will post an update next week after I try to record BG this Friday. I really need this to succeed because the following Thursday IFC will be showing Bound and I won't be home in time to catch it.
