Sometimes I get a strange horizontal output at the bottom of my recording and sometimes not.
I'm guessing this is something to do with the DVD i'm recording being copyright protected? (I own the DVD by the way - just want to watch it on my ipod)

Unless the screen is shifting up and down like a bad vertical hold, I would not suspect MacroVision.
If you're talking about a small "staticky" line at the edge of the feature, I always get this with my N1, although it is on the top. It doesn't bother me a whole heck of a lot.
